The family behind the events
Stars on the Concho is a homegrown business, and Kari Canady has been at the heart of it all since the doors opened in April 2017.
She and her husband are no strangers to the events industry, with their background in putting on live events. “Weddings were never really in the books for us until we got married and we planned our own wedding.”
Before Stars on the Concho came to be, the Canady family imagined something entirely different. Kari explained, “We were originally talking about opening up a music venue because that's the background that we come from. But music venues are very high risk, where a wedding venue is a lot lower risk. And so once we did our own wedding, we [thought], this is actually really nice. We could do this instead of live music.”
And so they did. And now, weddings are the bulk of the events that take place at Stars on the Concho. "It's primarily weddings, but we attract all sorts of different events like birthday parties, holiday events, and corporate meetings. Last year, we also had a series of candlelight events, and that was really neat,” Kari explained. Eventective allows Stars on the Concho to market themselves for that variety.

The tech that’s easy to use from the beginning
When it comes to managing the events at Stars on the Concho, Kari likes to keep things simple—which is one of the main reasons why she turned to Eventective.
“We tried [another platform] that was a ton of money up front that booked us absolutely no events,” she said. “I don't know if it was my husband or my mother-in-law that ran into your website and [found out] we could make a free account, and that wasn't a big deal. Then once we found out the price of it, [we thought], well, we can try it.” And since then, Stars on the Concho has always booked events through Eventective. “It’s just so easy to use and it's not complicated,” Kari shared.

Events involve many moving parts, so Kari relies on Eventective to help her stay organized. “One of my favorite things is that you send reminders when somebody hasn't heard back from you. I love that,” she explained. Kari also enjoys Eventective’s calendar feature.
“Every time we book something, I can go in there and make sure to block out the dates that we don't have available,” she shared. This is especially helpful for Kari to stay transparent with her clients. "For those people who are super hard on their date, they don't want you to contact them if their date's not available.”

The importance of a steady follow-up process
“One of the things we love about Eventective is that it gives you the email and the phone number,” says Kari.
“The best thing to do, especially with weddings, is to be able to talk to somebody on the phone,” she said. Kari has the best luck when she calls her inquiries as soon as possible.
“Hopefully I get a hold of them or leave a voicemail. We usually give them until the end of the day,” she explained. “Then we go ahead and send them our pricing in an email. We also love that [Eventective] shows whether or not the inquiry has read [our message].”
Kari's consistent follow-up process is the secret behind the steady bookings at Stars on the Concho. “I found the most successful way to get a hold of clients would be to go ahead and place that phone call, then follow it up with the response through Eventective,” she shared.
It’s a balance, though—Kari recommends giving people a few days before reaching out again. “If they haven't read it or haven't called back, shoot them a text message. That is the best way people like to communicate.”

And while no two seasons (or even two weeks) are ever the same, Kari knows she can count on Eventective to help her stay organized and keep the calendar full.
