You don't level a church, so now it's a venue

Kim DeLong will be the first to tell you that buying a church was never part of her plan. Here’s the story of how Kim turned an unexpected property purchase into Chapel on the Lane and found one platform to run it all.

Kim and her husband purchased a property in Dayton, Ohio because of a separate building on the lot—one they wanted to repurpose for their business, Dayton Metro Pickleball. But the property came with a beautiful old church. And Kim, as she put it, wasn't about to level it.

"I just feel like that’s bad, right? I don't need that kind of thing in my life," she laughed. 

So, they started asking a different question: what could it become?
 
The answer came from their own experience. When Kim and her husband decided to get married after seven years and two kids, finding a church willing to host them without a membership or months of required classes was nearly impossible. They eventually found a place, but the struggle stuck with Kim. When she looked at the church on her property, she saw a market no one was serving: people who wanted a beautiful, welcoming space to
celebrate without the red tape. 

Chapel on the Lane was born.

Keeping it simple (and smart)

Kim is clear about what she needs from software: "I don’t want to spend so much time on the back end with all this complicated stuff. I want it to be Windows Easy," she said. "If it's not Windows Easy, I'll put it aside. I won't do it." Eventective, she says, clears that bar. "I feel like it’s stuck with the 'keep it simple, stupid' method. It does everything I need. And as simplistic as that sounds, it’s what I want." 

Qualified inquiries come consistently, and every single one gets funneled directly into the platform—even inquiries that originate from Kim’s website or Google. "I move leads from other locations to here and manage it all in one spot," she said.  

That simplicity translates into a daily process that works. Kim communicates with prospects in the inbox so “everything is documented, and I can always go back to it." She uses the notes feature to track phone conversations, event preferences, and follow-up items without having to rewrite entire agreements. 
 
Payment plans are set up for each client, and automated reminders are sent when installments are due. "It keeps everything clean and neat, and I don't have to go to a lot of different places." She's even used the document upload feature to store a client's 501(c)(3) paperwork directly in their account—a small touch, but the kind of detail that keeps things organized when tax season rolls around.
 
Kim has intentionally kept her marketing conservative while she builds her baseline. "I just retired—I'm not even a month in," she said. "As busy as it's keeping me while I was working full-time, I don't dare advertise yet." When she's ready to grow, the infrastructure will be in place.
