The Yiddish Book Center offers a lovely setting and unique place for family simkhes (celebrations), weddings, bar and bas mitzvahs, conferences, and community events. Located in Amherst, in the heart of western Massachusetts' Pioneer Valley, the Center is surrounded by peaceful gardens, a ten-acre apple orchard, and a spectacular view of the rolling Holyoke Range. Outside, the architecturally distinct building echoes traditional Eastern European design, with gabled roofs and cedar siding; inside, the space opens to a light-filled space overlooking the main floor repository, galleries, theater, and performance hall. All indoor rental spaces are fully accessible and air-conditioned, and a professional kosher dairy-style kitchen is available for use. The Yiddish Book Center has both indoor and outdoor rental spaces suitable for all occasions. The Kligerman-Greenspun Performance Hall is a spacious, light-filled hall ideal for larger indoor celebrations, conferences, and events, including weddings and bar and bas mitzvahs. The 3,000-square-foot space holds 221 people with theater-style seating, 150 to 180 people for a seated dinner, and 120 to 165 people for a buffet dinner with a dance floor. A digital projector and screen are available for slide shows, as well as a microphone and computer connection for announcements or recorded music. The expansive Outdoor Terrace provides panoramic views and ample space for tented ceremonies and events. The terrace overlooks an apple orchard and garden, ideal for photo shoots and cocktail parties. The terrace is 7,900 square feet, with room for a tent of up to 3,200 square feet (40 x 80 feet). Tent rental information is available upon request. The Applebaum-Driker Theater is an intimate setting for presentations and ceremonies, filled with natural light from windows on the stage. The theater comprises a 640-square-foot main area with upholstered bench-style seating for 78 people, as well as a 390-square-foot stage. A large projection screen and full audiovisual equipment are available for your use. Nearby classrooms are available for smaller gatherings and break-out sessions. The classrooms can accommodate 20 to 25 people each and can be arranged in various configurations for meetings or presentations. The classrooms are also AV-equipped. Our professional kitchen is available for use by a kosher or non-kosher caterer. Out of respect for Jewish traditions no pork, ham, or shellfish are allowed on the premises. Caterers are responsible for providing bar service and liquor liability. Catering requirements and a list of area kosher and non-kosher caterers are available upon request.
