The Coppertop Room was established in 2026 to fulfill Washington, Illinois’ need for a mid-size, private, multi-purpose event venue and meeting space. Conveniently located in the heart of town, The Coppertop Room is owned and operated by lifelong Washingtonians and husband-and-wife team, Greg Wilson and Jana Hunzicker.
It all started when we began constructing a new building to house Greg’s marketing business, POGO Marketing, that included an office and workshop. The original plan was to construct four equally sized office/retail spaces and offer two of the spaces for lease to other local businesses. But as the building took shape, we couldn’t shake the idea of opening a one-of-a-kind event venue. We drew dozens of floor plans, expanded the venue space once … and then again, and ordered bricks shipped from a razed warehouse in Englewood, Colorado to create a rustic chic interior. We added a full kitchen, televisions, and two fireplaces surrounded with soft seating to make the space feel like home. As our vision for the space evolved, we integrated copper-colored fixtures, penny decor, and shades of WCHS orange and black to make the space fun and inviting. Even the top hat that eventually became the centerpiece of The Coppertop Room logo is our nod to the great Land of Lincoln.
Our mission is to provide an upscale, close-to-home event venue for Central Illinois residents that can be rented for formal occasions, business and social events, and family gatherings; a comfortable space where guests have the choice of hiring a professional caterer, hosting a potluck, or using the kitchen to prepare a favorite meal; a private space where those who gather can settle in and relax, as if they were in their own home - without having to clean for days before and after!
