About St. Luke's Episcopal Church

Wedding FAQ My fiancé & I are of different religions and haven’t really attended any church, but I just want to get married in a church, any church. Please feel free to come and check out St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Rochester, MN for your marriage celebration. In the Episcopal Church, any baptized person can be married, without either person belonging to the Episcopal denomination, or any denomination. The Episcopal church believes that marriage is the union of two people in heart, body and mind, as intended by God for their mutual joy, with the understanding that God is always present to support and strengthen during their lifelong journey. Can I bring in my own officiant? Yes, you may bring in your own officiant and our office will be happy to help you with arrangements. What if I don’t have an officiant? Could St. Luke’s provide an officiant? If you would like St. Luke’s to provide an officiant, our Rector, Rev. Justin Chapman, will be happy to work with you. The services of our officiant include: ceremony planning, bulletin preparation and printing, rehearsal, premarital counseling, and, of course, officiating at your wedding. We use the rites currently authorized by The Episcopal Church which run the spectrum from very traditional to quite contemporary. Rev. Chapman will work with you to plan a memorable service that celebrates your love. What if I’m LGBTQ? Our beloved Presiding Bishop Michael Curry said it best: “We are committed to the principle of full and equal access to, and inclusion in, the sacraments for all of the baptized children of God, including our LGBTQ siblings.” At St. Luke's we believe that God does not exclude anyone from God's sacraments, so all are invited to worship and celebrate the gifts that God has given us. Can I be remarried in the Episcopal Church if I am divorced? Yes. Marriage is a godly union of two persons who commit to one another in a lifelong relationship of loving care. It is two people – body and soul – forming something new together, something God-created. But when a marriage has been terminated, we pray for those who have suffered the pain of divorce. The Episcopal church does not condemn people for making painfully hard choices amidst the complex brokenness of the world. We extend the joy of remarriage to all baptized people, whether or not you are Episcopalian. Can we have the reception at St. Luke’s as well? Yes, you can rent the entire facility for the day, including the church, the reception hall, dressing room and beautiful grounds for only $2,000. This also includes one night for rehearsal. If you prefer to use only the grounds, those are available for $1,500 for the entire day. If you plan to have your reception elsewhere, you could rent just the sanctuary for $300 and the bride’s dressing room for $150. We are happy to work with you to meet your needs.
