About First Church in Marlborough (Congregational)

First Church in Marlborough (Congregational) is a historic church in Marlborough. The present building known originally as The Meeting House, was built in 1853, and has an attached 43'x 65' Parish Hall (built later) that seats up to 190 people. Parish Hall is ideal for weddings, birthday and graduation parties, family gatherings, concerts, and entertainment events. The hall has a raised stage that is ideal for music events and theater productions. Please note that we do permit the serving of alcoholic beverages under controlled supervision. Ask us about our alcohol policy. A note for wedding receptions: the capacity for the hall is 190 people, so if you are wanting to have a dance floor as well, unfortunately we would not be able to accommodate you. In addition to the spacious open hall, we have a large kitchen available. You can prepare food in it, bring your prepared food, or bring in catered food (we do not provide catering services). We also have classrooms available for smaller group meetings.

The curtained stage is 25 ft. wide by 20 ft. in depth. The room includes tables and chairs that will accommodate about 190 people, and use of the wireless sound system.

General Hall Use Rental Fee: - Members of First Church: $45.00/hour. - Non-members of First Church: $65.00/hour plus a $150.00 cleaning fee. Music Function and Recital Hall Use: - Members of First Church: $250 for up to 4 hours, plus $30 for every half-hour over 4 hours. - Non-members of First Church: $450 for up to 4 hours, plus $75 for every half-hour over 4 hours. A Security/Damage Deposit is required and will be included in the total cost of the hall rental. - The Security/Damage Deposit is waived for First Church members and $250 for non-members. - The Security/Damage Deposit is due when the hall is reserved and must be paid by check. The deposit will be refunded within 12 (twelve) business days after the event unless funds are withheld due to misuse or noncompliance by the rental party regarding the Rules/Regulations. Additional Fees: - There is a $75.00 dumpster fee for an event serving food to 100 or more people. - Winter surcharge: During winter months, there will be an extra charge of $50.00 if shoveling snow is required. The extra charge will be deducted from Damage Deposit if shoveling is required. Cancellation policy: If an event must be cancelled, it must be done 10 or more days prior to the day of the event. Should an event be cancelled with 10 or less days notice , the Security/Damage Deposit will be forfeited and not returned to the renter. RULES/REGULATIONS: • All use of the facilities must comply with local fire laws. • The renting party must provide their own trash bags and all trash needs to be bagged and left in Parish Hall for First Church staff to dispose of in the onsite dumpster. • Absolutely no helium balloons are allowed in the building. • First Church is a smoke-free facility. No smoking is permitted in the parish hall, any restroom, or anywhere within the building. If smoking materials are discarded in the flower beds, planters, sidewalks or on the grounds, an extra cleanup charge will be imposed. Any guests violating the smoking restrictions will be asked to leave the premises. • The rental area must be swept and cleaned up, lights turned off, and the building locked after use by First Church personnel. Note that First Church functions receive schedule priorities. (Typically, this would occur for an unexpected funeral service). Note that First Church follows local and state Health Department regulations relating to limiting the spread of Covid-19, and our Church Council may independently mandate that masks be worn during the time and day of the event. A failure to do so would result in the loss of the Security/Damage Fee Deposit.
