I've been to enough reunions to know how they usually go a banquet hall, name tags, small talk that never gets past "so what are you doing now." This was nothing like that. This felt like a story someone wrote just for us. We arrived as a scattered group of classmates who hadn't all been in the same room in years, and somehow, by the second night, it felt like no time had passed at all. The whole gathering had been tailored down to the smallest detail, like someone had actually thought about who we were, not just where we went to school. There was a fireplace that pulled people in without anyone trying, and conversations around the stars and turned into real catch-ups about lives, kids, careers, everything in between. The beds deserve their own paragraph. After a full day of talks, toasts, and old friends who don't know how to say goodnight, I fell into that bed and didn't move until morning, the kind of sleep you don't get enough credit for missing until you have it again. What stayed with me most, though, was how effortless it all felt. Nothing about it was stiff or scripted. It was just fun, genuinely, unexpectedly fun, in the way you hope a reunion will be and rarely believe it actually can be. I left already looking forward to the next one, which is not something I ever thought I'd say about a reunion. If you're planning one of your own, don't settle for the banquet hall. I am just back from a Harvard alumni retreat at The Perch. The whole experience was AMAZING. This is such a unique place! Starting with the location, with such a wonderful view from the valley. And the character of the building, so historic, so romantic, but with a touch of modernity too. The breakfast was amazing, and they also organized a yoga class in the morning and archery lessons on the lawn after lunch, and they took us to a place to shoot clays, which was very entertaining (my first time doing it). We had dinner on Saturday evening, prepared by a local chef; everything was delicious. And a cigar tasting at the terrace afterwards while we were watching one of the World Cup matches on a big screen. From the start to the end, this was one of the best experiences I had this year.
