Chroma Key Digital Photography
In other words: the technique for combining two images, in which a color (usually green or blue *) from one image is replaced, showing another image behind it.
It is commonly used for Television weather forecast were the presenter appears to be standing in front of a large weather map, but the presenter is in the television Studio in front of a large blue or green background.
The principal subject is filmed, videotape or photographed against an even colored selected background, usually blue or green. In the portions of the film, video or digital photograph which match the preselected color are replaced by the alternate background film, video or digital photograph. This process is commonly known as "Keying". In other words: replacing the colored background selected with another image.
Background
The Green Background is the color of preference because digital cameras retain more detail in the green channel (R.G.B.) and it requires less light than that of the blue background.
Even lighting
Even lighting of the background and avoiding shadows is of outmost importance to create more realistic photographs
Computer Software
There are several software programs in the market today that have the ability to create and perform the chroma-key effect in: film, video, or digital photography. **
*Blue or Green: because these colors are considered to be the furthest away from skin tone in photography.
**Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier, Triprism, Expressdigital and more.
Chroma Key: The process of shooting against a colored background [normally green or blue], which is removed electronically in post production to allow the foreground to be placed over any background.
Chrominance: The color part of a TV signal that relates to the hue and saturation of the displayed image.
