About The St. Joseph Museum

The St. Joseph Museum encompasses several museums at one site. Conference room rental allows guests to visit any or all of them at no extra charge. The American Indian and History Galleries features American Indian items from 10 cultural regions and pre-history items from area archaeological excavations. Featured exhibits include American Indian items from the extensive Harry L. George collection. The Black Archives Museum showcases the story of African American life in St. Joseph and Buchanan County as it relates to businesses, churches, education, music, and sports. Exhibits explore such topics as African culture, slavery in Missouri, Colored Soldiers in the Civil War, and the local impact of the national Civil Rights era. Explore the world of dolls from many cultures through this collection dated from the 1840s to the present day. The Doll Museum houses a large collection of antique, collectible, and modern dolls as well as doll accessories, doll houses, miniatures, and many other types of toys. Featured exhibits include a collection of handmade dolls created in St. Joseph in the late 19th century. Voted one of the top 10 attractions in Missouri in the 2017 USA TODAY Readers' Choice travel contest, the Glore Psychiatric Museum takes visitors across the wide span of historical treatment of mental illness. Exhibits illustrate the changing face of psychiatric treatment and present the history of “State Lunatic Asylum No. 2” hospital.
