The Byron Colby Barn is a wedding venue like none others. My wife and I didn't want to go the standard wedding route and could not be happier that we found this location. The barn, which was built in 1885, was taken apart and relocated to Prairie Crossing, where it was completely rebuilt. With exposed beams and hardwood floors, it has a very rustic feel. It also has some other interesting features, including a silo and loft. We set the bar up in the silo, which many of our guests thought was extremely cool. While we were concerned that people sitting up in the loft would feel like they were being exiled from the rest of the crowd, that wasn't the case. They loved sitting up there and other guests commented on how they thought it would be fun to sit up high, with an overhead view of the entire barn. We were having a smaller wedding, so the 180-person capacity wasn't an issue for us. Another great benefit of the barn is they allow you to use any caterer you want, so you can have complete control over your wedding. This was a huge bonus for us, as we didn't want to go with the house caterer many venues demanded we use. They also let you decorate the barn however you want, which again, lets you make your wedding as unique as you are. The only negative we found with the barn was that they often have events scheduled on Friday and Saturday nights, so you're unable to do a wedding rehearsal there on those nights. Fortunately for us, we kept the ceremony extremely simple so this didn't turn out to be much of an issue for us.
Our son was married last weekend and they held their reception at "The Barn". With the help of Nancy Rolison as planner and decorator and Catered Productions, they were able to create an ambiance that everyone was captivated by. "So warm and intimate." "Inviting", "quaint" were some of the comments we heard. A magical time was had by all and we highly recommend this venue
