You’ve got a wedding to plan. Or maybe it’s a birthday party, shower, retirement party, or any of a thousand other functions. The Wheaton Park District Leisure Center is the classy, classic, comfortable venue you’ve been looking for. Start with our long history. The Leisure Center began as the carriage house for the home of Elbert Henry Gary, Chairman of the Board of U.S. Steel and namesake of Gary, Indiana, as well as Gary Avenue right here in Wheaton. The house was demolished in the 1920s, but the carriage house remained. During the 1930s, the American Legion made substantial changes to the structure, and in 1940, the Legion transferred the carriage house to the park district, in whose hands it remains today. Continue with our amenities. We have space for every scale: small events with only your closest loved ones, or large parties with every branch of the family tree. Choose from the Phillips Room (12 people, 200 sq. ft.), Coach Room (30 people, 663 sq. ft.), and VIP Room (70 people, 1,037 sq. ft.). Hardwood floors throughout the building are warm and bright, and you never have to worry about lugging tables or chairs across town—they’re included in your rental fee! So are our comfortable, clean bathrooms. For an added fee, delight your guests’ taste buds with a coffee-making system. Catering, linens, décor, event staff, and personal planning staff are not included in any rental. But any time you rent the Leisure Center, your special event is just that: special. Your day is yours, and that means your event is the only one we host that day. No noise from other crowds. No lines for the bathroom. No one wandering in while you’re opening presents. After all, we are the Leisure Center. And we want you to have the most leisure possible! Resident rate: $150/hr., 3-hour minimum; $50 each additional hour. Nonresident rate: $300/hr., 3-hour minimum; $100 each additional hour. Commercial: $115/hr.
