Imagine yourself waking up one day to complete darkness. No matter how wide you open your eyes, nothing changes. Your vision is gone. This is the cruel reality that blind people have to live with every day.
But how much worse is it for people who have lost their vision to cancer?
Eye cancer is a rare type of cancer that starts in the eye. It affects around 2,000 adults in the U.S. every year, although children and seniors may also fall victim to it. Despite its devastating effects and poor prognosis, there is a disproportionately low amount of awareness and funding for eye cancer patients.
This experience, should you choose to accept it, will give you a taste of what blind patients have to go through every day - eating in the dark. We hope that the temporary loss of vision will make you treasure your eyesight more and think about supporting those who have to eat in the dark every day for the rest of their lives.
