At Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, conservation is a part of our mission. Our goal is to take an active role in helping to conserve our planet's resources - plants, animals, and whole ecosystems. As a model for others, Como staff works to preserve resources and operate in an environmentally responsible, efficient, safe and sustainable manner. Many animals at Como Zoo are managed through a program of the American Association of Zoos and Aquariums called the Species Survival Plan (SSP). Most species chosen for SSP are endangered. Each SSP program manages the breeding of the captive population so that it remains healthy and genetically diverse. Como currently participates in 12 SSPs: Gorilla, Orangutan, Spider Monkey, Blue-eyed Black Lemur, Debrazza Monkey, Amur Tiger, Snow Leopard, African Lion, Waddled Crane, African Penguin, White-winged Wood Duck and Radiated Tortoise. Other species are managed cooperatively through various Taxon Advisory Groups. Garden Safari Gifts combines the best of both the zoo and conservatory by featuring botanical soaps and lotions, distinctive jewelry, adorable stuffed animals, fun interactive children's gifts, live plants, bonsai, apparel items and more! Como Park Zoo and Conservatory's 65,000 square foot Visitor Center was designed to provide an elegant and efficient setting for meetings and social events. The Visitor Center features private meeting spaces, the Zöbota Café, Garden Safari Gifts and the Tropical Encounters exhibit. Lancer catering is the exclusive caterer for the facilities at Como Zoo and Marjorie McNeely Conservatory.

Romantic Setting for a Small Wedding, An Eventective User from Eagan, MN

Como Park Conservatory was a wonderful venue for my wedding. My wedding was held at the end of October, at short notice. We invited about thirty people. There are three areas available for weddings, we chose the smallest of the venues. It was lovely and serene. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable, they helped when needed and followed through on all of the arrangements. We would have needed to plan far in advance for a Spring or Summer wedding but for in the fall there was availability for a morning ceremony. The location I chose did not have seating. I needed to have chairs provided for a few of the older guests. Como Park was okay with making this accomodation and provided the chairs. Some of the other areas also do not provide seating for guests, for short ceremonies like mine this wasn't an issue. The flowers were lovely and I saved a lot of money that I would have spent on decoration for a church or another venue. The staff was hepful when needed and stayed out of the way when they were not needed. Wonderful location!
