The town was of Story was founded as a logging community in 1851, with the grant of a land patent from President Millard Fillmore to Dr. George P. Story. In the early 1980’s two hippies from Bloomington bought and re-assembled the old town, and created the Story Inn. Today, Story is Indiana’s premier country inn, and perhaps the best preserved example of a 19th Century village that survives in the American Midwest.
We host events in a 1,600 square foot, recently renovated, tin-roofed barn built in 1907. We have fitted the Barn with a concrete dance floor/stage, dancing and dining facilities, and a 200 amp electrical service. We can accommodate up to 80 guests under roof and 300 guests under the stars or tent. The Barn venue is rented out by the weekend, but clients are encouraged to come as early as Wednesday to start decorating and enjoy their wedding week festivities! We do offer Day of Coordinators to help with setup, planning, and overall execution.
Step back in time by staying in one of our 18 unique and original rooms or cottages that once served as homes and workspaces Story’s early 19th century residents. Each is decorated with Victorian era furniture, photos, and other antiques. We nurture and promote the opportunity for tranquil disconnect by not offering televisions, radios, or phones.
