Northrop offers spaces to accommodate groups of various sizes for graduation ceremonies, conferences, receptions, film screenings, lectures, dance parties, concerts, book clubs, meetings, or many other types of events. Our new spaces were designed to be flexible, serving multiple purposes. Ticketing and registration services are available from University of Minnesota Tickets and Events. The Best Buy Theater is an intimate, fourth-floor space with seating for 168 patrons and two lobby areas connected by the Northrop Gallery. This space is ideal for lectures, small music ensembles, film screenings, panel discussions and smaller-scale performances. The space is equipped with film projection equipment and an innovative LARS listening system, making the space itself “tunable” to the sound being produced.

Northrop’s new main auditorium is a state-of-the-art performance hall, seating up to 2700 patrons in a warm and intimate environment. The Carlson Family Stage offers full ADA access, main floor seating for 1100, three wrapped balconies, and gracious public spaces and lobby areas. The main theater features excellent acoustics for both musical and vocal performance with excellent sightlines. The rigging, lighting systems, and performer support areas are all at the highest industry standards, in addition to audio, video, and telecommunication technologies available for remote transmission or simulcast.
