Tuesday: closed to all
Wednesday to Sunday: open to all - 9 am - 4 pm
* Please note: Events, holidays, and school breaks may impact these hours. Additionally, CMTM offers professional, family-friendly theatre productions and afterschool experiences, which are ticketed separately from museum visits.

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine Afterschool Experiences are designed with the whole child in mind. From exploring the interconnection between Maine's aquatic species to creating a show as a theatre ensemble, these experiences foster collaboration, empathy, critical thinking, and self-awareness skills.

Join the MakerSpace team for a hands-on class focused on a different artist each week. Children ages 2-5 & their caregivers will experiment with the mediums and styles of well-known and emerging artists.
Join us for the Science for Tots series! This is a weekly program designed for children ages 2-5 and their caregivers. Each week, experience a different activity based on the theme of the month. Do you like science and art? This month, we will explore science through big, messy art projects. We will paint with colorful bubbles, mix colors through fizzy baking soda reactions, and explore texture by making our own paintbrushes. We recommend coming in clothes you don’t mind getting messy.
Join Theatre for Tots, a special early childhood theatre experience for children ages 2-4 and their caregivers to gain confidence imagining and pretending together. Weekly. Included with Admission.

The play structure at the Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine is closed to make way for ducklings
The Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine will showcase an array of works by local artists at a 21-plus event complete with food and cocktails, both a live and silent art auction, featuring music and comedy. The proceeds will all go toward its Community Fund, which supports kids and families who face barriers in accessing the facility.
This will be the museum’s second Flying Colors Art Auction Benefit and will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 10.
On Sunday, the Children's Museum and Theater of Maine hosted local authors to share their books for the special week.
Madeleine Corson, a former media executive and board member for the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine, died Monday after battling cancer. Corson was the former Chair of the Board of Guy Gannett Communications and a long-term member of the Museum & Theatre Board of Directors.
She was the executive who gave hugs to all her employees. The fierce advocate for family-owned businesses even after she sold her own. The generous benefactor who delighted in introducing children to the arts, especially theater.
It’s almost time for the Solar Eclipse! “News Center Maine’s United in Totality” team stopped by the museum this week to learn about the exciting programs being offered by the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine to spark curiosity and creativity in young minds as the state of Maine prepares for Monday’s eclipse.

CMTM’s Merritt Holman has been honored by Governor Janet Mills and Volunteer Maine as the 2024 Young Maine Volunteer of the Year! Merritt, a high school sophomore, was awarded this honor in recognition of her extensive volunteer work in CMTM’s Maddy’s Theatre.
The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine is seeking theatrical production designers for our 2025 mainstage season with experience in both design and execution in scenery, lighting, sound, costumes, props, puppets, and/or projections. Submission deadline: June 30, 2024.
