Why Hopkins? - An Eventective User from Baltimore, MD

Hopkins is a good meeting venue because it is relatively inexpensive, is located close to major transportation corridors including freeways and public transit, offers accommodation and catering (and the caterers are used to dealing with food allergies, sensitivities, and religious restrictions). The tech support is top-notch, and they will move you without any hassle if the AV is malfunctioning. It's generally very scalable (add classrooms as needed) which also makes it a very flexible venue. They can provide extra tables and chairs as needed. Having been to many meetings at Hopkins, I can honestly tell you that they are one of the best sites I have ever worked with. There's a good compromise between urban walkability for attendees (restaurants close by, housing close by, grocery and drug stores nearby) and suburban greenery and nature. It's also very easy to scale up. If your meeting only has a hundred people, you can rent a single classroom. If it has several thousand, you can rent several buildings. There are nearby bookstores and a press if print materials are desired for distribution. They have experience with all sorts of meetings, academic or otherwise, everything from mathematical conferences, to medieval manuscript conferences, to major local science fiction conferences. Their expertise even stretches to accommodating weddings, so they're likely to be able to handle any meeting you're likely to hold. During the summer, they can rent out accommodations to attendees, but during the rest of the year, there are a large number of hotels within walking distance, and many more within about 10 minutes' cab ride in a large urban center.
