Save the date cards are completely optional. Often if you are having a destination wedding or many out of town guests it is a nice gesture so they can make the necessary travel arrangements. There are also other ways to let your guests know your wedding details such as a web site dedicated to your wedding or sending out an email.

It isn't necessary to send save the dates. However, if you have people you plan on inviting that plan vacations or have a busy schedule, its nice to give them a heads up. You want those you invite to be able to come to your wedding, not tell you sorry I can't because I already made plans. You can find save the dates for reasonable prices, check out vistaprint.com. That is where I got mine. Good luck and congrats on the engagement!

I'm using save the date magnets as well as matching envelopes from vista print. Believe it or not they are cheaper than making your own.My wedding is June 25, 2011.
