Try the knights of columbus fraternity in your area. They usually have a hall that you can rent. They may know of another location if they don't rent their hall, so do ask them.

If you want me to design your invitations, thank-yous, sign-in posters, thank you magnets, let me know. I'm offering a 50% off sale. I can incorporate your image on all of these. Need about two months to design, order and mail to you. Best and good luck!

I can't help with your venue for that price, but you should try to look for a church party space, a community center or a VFW hall or knights of columbus hall. Also try your local WYCA/WMCA. They should have space that you could rent for pretty reasonable prices. If you can't find any, go to your local yellow pages or a real estate office that may be able to help you find organizational party spaces.

for props, party decor, check out:

www.orientaltrading.com

do a search for mardi gras. hope this helps and good luck.

Dear Browniigirl104

No problem, but it would be helpful to know the following:

  • Date & location
  • style/theme/colors
  • budget - how much do you want to spend
  • # of guests

Shoot me an email and I can help get you started. Depending where you are, I can do photography, print design like invites and thank you cards, sign in posters for your guests, favors, etc.

Good luck and keep in touch!

Dear Kristen,
There is a dance recital hall with a stage in your area that would be perfect. They also have table and chairs for you. You will need to hire a caterer, buy your own table settings/decor and hire a dj.

I would recommend you have a photographer photograph you and your pals dressed up in a "diva" outfit with boas, feathers, bling and pears. You can get posters made and rent a red carpet and sashes at the entrance where you could have your posters set up.

If you need help in planning, contact me. I can also provide invites, thank yous and favors and photography, giving you a nice package with everything included. I have a lot of resources for this kind of theme.

If you do it yourself, be sure to make sure you know exactly what the venue will provide, its cost and if the date is available. You will have to give a deposit to hold the party there. The venue should be able to refer a good caterer and a dj.

Good luck and contact me if you have questions.

I read Rev Brevard's notes on where to hold your party or reception. I think it's grand advice for those of you who are a limited budget. See her great listings below. Good luck and best wishes.

Lise'

1. Civic Centers, Park Pavilions, and other public facilities: Check with your municipal, county and state Parks & Recreation department. Gorgeous historical mansions can be found for a song!

2. Fraternal Lodges: Elk, Moose, VFW, Knights of Columbus, etc.: Look on their national websites to find a location near you.

3. Community Clubhouses (apartment, condo, neighborhood): Ask friends and family who live in communities with clubhouses to sponsor you.

4. Garden Clubs: Check your local listings (on-line and yellow pages)

5. Performing Arts Centers: Check your local listings (on-line and yellow pages)

6. Private Homes: Home weddings can be absolutely lovely, but do come with their own set of challenges because they are not created to be event venues. Here are some ideas for making a home a suitable wedding venue. http://brevardminister.com/tips_for_home_weddings.htm

7. Museums and Art Galleries: You might be surprised at how reasonable a museum or gallery can be, especially if they are not known for being a wedding venue and would appreciate the incremental income. Check your local listings (on-line and yellow pages)

8. Business Meeting Space: Ask friends or family if they work at or know of a business in town that has hall space and might be willing to rent it after hours. For example, my county Board of Realtors has a fabulous meeting area they rent out for weddings at a phenomenally inexpensive rate, but they don't advertise. You have to know they are there.

9. Unitarian Universalist congregations are often willing to rent their space to non-members at reasonable rates. http://uua.org/aboutus/findcongregation/index.php

10. Unusual Venues: Be creative and think about places you have been that might make a nice wedding and/or reception venue. These can be especially meaningful if they are associated with your relationship. For example, I have officiated weddings at a local nursery where the groom shopped frequently (the plants made a naturally gorgeous background), a bowling alley where the bride and groom met and played in several leagues, a zoo where the couple volunteered, and a marina where the couple fished regularly. In a few of these instances, the bride and groom didn't have to pay a dime because the venue wanted the publicity. It never hurts to ask.

11. On Edit: Courtesy of Dr. Ron Shapiro: Colleges, Universities and Independent Schools: Great idea! I've not officiated a wedding at an educational setting, but I was married in a college chapel. Can't believe I didn't even think of the place I was married myself! (Reception in an art museum)

Hi im Crystal, and im just starting to plan for my sweet 16.
Any ideas on places for about 1-450ppl,
I dont really have a set budget yet but anythign that fits will do.

Crystal,

Need to know the following:

*location

*style (do you want something of a club or a formal party)

*you have to have some kind of budget. for up to 450 people, and the average of $50 per person at a good quality venue, you are talking about $25,000. If you don't have a budget like that, then you need to plan in a simple venue with a caterer.

More info would be helpful.

Thanks and regards,

Hello, I live in MA and hosted a very formal, elegant Sweet 16 two yrs ago for my oldest daughter. I spent less than $3,000.00 on the whole event. We had a formal hall, DJ, wedding style cake, 2 buffet tables of food and I even had chocolate fountain with tons of goodies to dip. Every guest had a great time but most importantly my daughter to this day brags about it. I'm currently planning my youngests sweet 16th for April and my budget this time is $2,000.00. You just have to shop around and sometimes it's the little things that make the lasting impressions.

Hi Friend,
It would be helpful to know where you live.

As a rule, for your budget, you can probably rent space, such as:

*WMCA/WYCA

*Community Center

*Churches often have party space

*Non-profit organizations like Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodges, Firehouses, Police Athletic Leagues and Colleges and Universities

You should be able to find these listings if you do a search on line, or fill out the "fine available venues and vendors" using Eventective's EventAgent. Also, you should check into local restaurants that very often can rent you their space on an "off" day like a Sunday afternoon. Smaller hotels usually like to fill their spaces, so find out if there is something near you. You should be able to bring in your own food and decorate a conference room. They should provide tables, chairs and linens for you.

Good luck!

Lise'

www.mybelovedwedandart.com

p.s. I'm having a $200 design sale. You get:

*100 invites

*2-sign in posters for your guests to give their best wishes

*Welcome banner with your image which can be placed at your party entrance

*Thank you cards

You image can be added to any or all of these for an additional $5.00.

All the best!
