Biggest Waste Ever: The Huge Money Spent on Hollywood Weddings and Other Parties

June 30, 2008

While most people would spend a good portion of their savings on a wedding (which makes sense if you’re a middle class American), the rich and famous choose to spend the same portion of money on their weddings. This decision, in some cases, can be well over a million dollars. Here are ten of the most ridiculously expensive weddings and other events people pay for:

  1. Nicole
    Event: Sweet Sixteen
    Location: San Francisco, CA
    2249136814_2c4f67174e1.jpg
Nicole lives in both Hawaii and San Francisco and is obsessed with Christian Dior. Because of her obsession, she and her family decided to throw a French themed super sweet sixteen. The super sweet sixteen was outfitted with dancers that performed as though they had been with Cirque Du Soleil and rapper Keak da Sneak.Nicole was also undeservingly awarded a brand new white BMW.And the cost of this super sweet sixteen? $200,000.00.This event was filmed by MTV’s hit show Super Sweet Sixteen

  2. Janelle
    Event: Quinceañera
    Location: Miami, FL
    2249129544_97573a9a501.jpg
A quinceanera is a party usually celebrated by 15 year old Hispanic girls of their coming of age as a woman. These types of events are more than your average 15 year olds birthday party. But in the case of Janelle, it was much more than your average wedding.Janelle got to design her own dress, which she wore to a fully catered event with a very hefty price tag. The bill for this event, $125,000.00.

  3. Tori Spelling & Charlie Shanian
    Event: Wedding
    Location: Los Angeles, CA

The heiress Tori Spelling married actor Charlie Shanian at her mother’s mega mansion in Los Angeles in 2004.Spelling looked nothing short of extravagant in a Badgley Mischka gown with beaded crystals; she accessorized the gown with a diamond encrusted headband.Of course, her cast mates Jason Priestley and Jennie Garth, from 90210 were there to support her.

The total cost for Tori and Charlie’s wedding ran around $1 million dollars. For Mega Rich families like the Spellings, this amount is nothing but a drop in the bucket.

  4. Donald Trump & Model Melania Knauss
    Event: Wedding
Location: Bethesda by the Sea Episcopalian Church & Trump’s Mar-A-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida

Donald Trump is no stranger to weddings; he has been married three times.Trump first married Ivana Zelnickova, then Marla Maples and finally in 2005, he married Melania Knauss. The two tied the knot in Trumps Mar-A-Lago Club in Palm Beach, FL. The bride wore a satin, crystal beaded Christian Dior gown with a 50 pound train.

The estimated cost for this event was $1 million dollars. Undoubtedly the couple could have spent far more. It makes one wonder, in this instance, if the Donald could have possibly accounted for the extravagant wedding gifts in his pre-nup.

Who would have thought this former Genie in a bottle had such a huge pocketbook.

Katie Holmes did not hold back on her gown of choice which was a special-made, one of a kind, Georgio Armani, Ivory silk gown. The guests were indulgent in a five-tiered, white chocolate wedding cake covered with marzipan roses. This event cost about $2 million dollars to put on.

The most spectacular part of the event, however, was probably its secrecy, and privacy that was offered to the couple as they confirmed their very controversial coupling.

As some of the top producing artists in R&B and Hip Hop, a wedding like this seems almost appropriate, although it’s difficult to understand how 1/10 of a wedding expense could be spent on fish eggs.

It has been reported that the lavish, five-star, Parisian wedding cost around 60 million dollars.

One would think that this amount is exorbitant but when your father’s net worth is 50 Billion+, I guess this 60 million dollar wedding is normal.

No I think the Olympics is probably the biggest waste of money ever.

  2. Mrs. Bernie Madoff on March 13th, 2010 10:40 am

60 million for a wedding, you know he married her for her money, she’s a beautiful girl, but i/m sure, shes spoiled as hell. Just think of all the “Street beggers”, and “Slumdogs” in India, he could have helped with all those wasted millions. Which im sure most of it was stolen, in some form or other…..

I dont agree with Bernie, how dare you say that he married her for money…. its your way of thinking. i bet that this couple will be one until their death, that is what indian culture is all about, not like the western way of thinking of money all the time, eg. pre nuptial agreement….. If one start thinking like the way Mrs Madoff describes, we all should not eat, drink or spend. More you have more you spend, more richer you are more expensive things you buy. my needs may be different to you because of our levels of income, etc….

they have billions, let them spend some millions (some loose change for them), atleast all those who involved, enjoyed and saw what money can do….

I think this kind of spending on all of these weddings is way over the top. If people, at the end of the day can sit with themsleves and justify or feel no two ways about it, they seriously have problems. A nice wedding is one thing, but this is insane and if a people don’t recognize the insanity of it all they need a reality check…not a $ cheque. How sad when pepole have the power with in themselves to make an enourmous difference on this planet and choose not to.

Got something to say?
