"The Altman Building - New York City", An Eventective User from Brooklyn, NY
I attended an event at the Altman Building recently and really enjoyed the event host's choice of venue. It has a large, open floor plan, which helps in not feeling crowded, despite all the people in attendance. The main floor has pillars, high brick ceilings, and shiny wooden floors. The bathrooms are conveniently and discreetly located downstairs. The venue has a lower floor, but it is not as wide and open as the main floor upstairs. The main detail that caught my eye right away as I approached the building was the windows, which, according to their website, is their 'original French doors.' I feel they are the main reason the Altman Building has an open, roomy look and feel. The only thing I did not like was the ladies' room; I feel it was a little small for the amount of people that the venue could hold. For party/retail events, like the one I attended, the French doors acted as advertisements to the party inside; many people just passing by bought tickets at the door. For weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, and other celebrations like that, the customer may want the windows covered, which the Altman will do.
The Altman Building staff are friendly and knowledgeable about their venue; any questions I asked were not answered with a brusque, 'I don't know'. It is also located in the trendy neighborhood of Chelsea, so any out-of-town meeting goers will not have to worry about safety. The only reason I would not give the Altman Building a perfect 5 is the bathrooms, but that alone should not prevent any company from having their event at this venue.
