Beautiful California wedding, An Eventective User from Santa Clara, CA

I got married at the Santa Clara University Mission Church in September 2008. The weather was gorgeous that day, but it got very cool at night. The church interior is so beautiful, with carved wooden chairs. It was somewhat dark inside, which made photography a little tricky, but the pictures turned out okay. There is ample parking for guests, and the location is very central in Santa Clara. The church is very old, and it lends lots of atmosphere to the celebration. We had the reception at the next-door club area. Dinner was served on the lawn. In hindsight, this was not a good idea. While we had gas lamps for heat, they kept going out, and our guests were absolutely freezing. The lawn also was slightly uneven and stained dresses. The waiters kept trying to relight the lamps, but the wind made them go out again and again. There wasn't much light towards the end of dinner, so it was a bit strange to try to eat in candlelight at dusk. Not recommended. We should have done the dinner inside. After dinner, we had dancing and cake inside the lounge room. I don't recall what it's named, but it's a lodge/lounge type room. It's not huge, so we'd have had to had a smaller wedding to eat inside. But, the venue worked very well for dancing. Our guests had a great time, and we had a great band. The university also provides a fabulous backdrop for wedding pictures. It's a very traditional Californian wedding venue!
