When deciding where my wife and I would hold our wedding ceremony we were limited by a number of factors: the first was that we knew we wanted to be near the ocean in the Southern Maine area, and second, we needed a church that would accept us even though we are not regular church worshipers. The First Congregational Church fir the bill on both accounts, and we couldn't have been happier with out choice. The church is actually the oldest active church in Maine, and is built with an old New England style lay out of two aisles instead of the traditional center church aisle. At first we were concerned as to how this would look, but upon visiting the church our fears were put to rest. The double aisle looked great and actually was a very good way to bring the groomsmen in on one side and the bridesmaids in on the other. We were also unsure as to what to expect when meeting with the pastor, but he was very easy to talk to and did not try and convert us, as we feared might happen. The church, while not on the beach, actually has a great ocean view of the harbor, which came out great in our photographs. In conclusion the church had some great rustic old New England charm and history, and we couldn't have been happier with the entire experience, though we might suggest finding a different organist for the ceremony. We have some great memories of the church and it will always have a special place in our hearts, don't hesitate to use this for your ceremony!
