A Surprisingly Satisfactory Southern Maryland Business Conference Experience, An Eventective User from Washington D.C.

While it's true that the Colony South Hotel & Conference Center is just 15 miles from Washington, D.C., one doesn't expect great business conference accommodations to be available in this rather rural stretch of Southern Maryland. As real estate developers, it was critical for our team to find and hold a business conference inviting top-level DC and New York executives to just this rural location. Our expectations were exceeded by this wonderful location. The staff was extraordinarily friendly in helping us set up our IT and lighting requirements for our presentation and although we had provided an inaccurate count of catering requirements to their kitchens, they worked overtime to make sure all our conference participants remained fed and water with no extra charges. Our participants experienced an easy commute, were thrilled with the free parking and followed the well-lit, signed path to the area and ball room we had reserved. We had ample space to set up a registration and greeting area and when the business presentations were underway, the projectors, screens, microphones and speakers all worked without a hitch. The outside of the hotel is rather quaint, in a Southern plantation style and we were exceedingly worried the interior would not compliment the professional image we were attempting. It is true that the carpet and wallpaper are not what you would expect in a grand, modern downtown conference center in any major metropolitan area but it was not true that it did not make for a great venue with ample space. At the conclusion of our conference, members and visitors surprised us by hanging around at the lounge the hotel hosts and still mention their enjoyment of the live band that happens to play their on Wednesday evenings. For the price we paid, which was significantly cheaper than any other DC metro venues, the level of service and the accommodations were truly superb. We've rebooked the next conference here for next year.
