Welcome To

The Old Riverton Inn

Overlooking the west branch of the Farmington River, this New England landmark is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. If the walls could talk they might tell tales of the early days when the Inn was known as Ive’s Tavern, a welcome sight on the old Albany to Hartford Post Road.  They might mention the many restorations and expansions through the years, and certainly, they would speak about the growth of furniture making in Riverton, where the famous Hitchcock chairs were produced for over a century.  A favorite story would tell of Harper Lee’s many visits because she so enjoyed the area as a place to write. There were several rival stage companies in operation between New Hartford and Riverton. Each stage driver stopped at his favorite inn, where he received special favors in return for bringing his passenger to that tavern.

Meet Your Hosts

Danamarie & Adam Towers

Danamarie grew up in Barkhamsted, and graduated Northwestern Regional #7 in 1982. Joining the United States Navy in February, 1983 she enlisted as a Seaman Recruit Radioman, and in 1996 changed her rating to Navy Counselor. Retiring after 22 years in February 2005 as a Chief Petty Officer Navy Counselor, she was hired at a major local hospital as a Human Resource Representative, servicing the Continuum of Care facility.  During these 4 years she found herself missing the military and being able to give back to her fellow Veterans. Seeking out a position at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, Danamarie was hired as a Human Resource Specialist in February 2009, currently still working in a remote role.

Adam is from central Maine where he graduated from college and worked in law enforcement both domestically and internationally. 8 years ago he made a career change to Human Resources and has held numerous HR Leadership roles.

Danamarie and Adam met in 2013 and married shortly after. After moves to Arizona and Florida they decided to come back to Dana’s roots in NW Connecticut and purchased the Old Riverton Inn. Their vision for the Inn is to provide a clean, comfortable and quiet atmosphere for people to enjoy while visiting the area. Complete renovations to the tavern were completed in order to draw locals in and provide a social atmosphere for neighbors to mingle.

What People are Saying!

This is such a charming Inn!!! I love how well kept and maintained the place is despite being built in the late 1700s. The inn keepers were very hospitable and sweet and treated us so well. They even gave my two dogs some baked doggie goods as a welcome!! I couldn’t say enough how much I enjoyed my stay.

This is a wonderful place to stay. Loved my time here! The new owners are the best!! The breakfasts are to die for, they are so good. It’s great to see this magical place come to life. Really enjoyed Christmas in Riverton and the roll the Old Riverton Inn played in it. Thanks Dana and Adam for all you do!! I also fell in love with Sadie!

I had stayed there a few years ago and loved the Inn! I just stayed recently and still love the Inn and new owners. The hospitality, charm, and rooms are terrific.

I’m also excited to see the Inn updated and the opening of the Royal Coachmen.

This place is a wonderful gem, I look forward to staying there again soon!
