We had an absolutely magical wedding weekend at Camp Chief Hector in November! The venue is incredibly unique, especially for couples who love the outdoors and are looking for something a little different. Having access to the site for the full weekend was so helpful for setting up the night before, and being able to sleep onsite in Forest House was super convenient. The staff are incredible and the food and drinks were great, the venue is a great option if you want to have your ceremony, photos and reception all in one place. There is a ceremony space outside which is lovely but also a stunning indoor option with a beautiful stone fireplace which is what we used and we couldn't have been happier. PLUS you get to feel good about your money going to a non profit that uses the proceeds to help send kids to camp!
We had a wonderful experience having our wedding at Camp Chief Hector in early November! The site is absolutely stunning this time of year. The Hector Lodge is a beautiful rustic venue, all my guests were very impressed. When you're out a CCH you can't help but feel your stress levels drop down a few notches. The staff at CCH are super helpful, John and I have been emailing back and fourth over the last year, he is always really quick to reply, and Tim was also very helpful the day before the wedding during set up. They offer a great menu selection for food, and a decent amount of options for vegetarians and gluten-free guests. We were very impressed with the amount of beer options available at the bar as well! Our favorite part was being able to come out the Friday night to set up all our stuff, stay in the Forest House with our very close friends, and wake up with everything ready the next morning! We highly recommend CCH to anyone looking for a more laid back, rustic venue.
John was amazing to work with. Great value for what you get. Staff was very friendly and enjoyable. Food was nothing less the perfection and the picture of the view is astounding. This was the perfect location for me and my husband. Everything was perfect
We can’t say enough great things about Camp Chief Hector. We figured the bar was set pretty high based on the quality of reviews, but John and his team fully delivered on an incredible wedding weekend. The whole site is beautiful and is such a relaxed and laid back environment. Everything you’ve read about the food is true. Absolutely incredible. We booked the rehearsal dinner at Hector Lodge, and are so glad we did. We received comments from friends saying they made the best mashed potatoes and caesar salad they’ve ever had! Great local beer and wine selection. Awesome “homemade” cocktail list. The canoe full of beer was a great touch. The kitchen staff were able to accommodate a couple small requests/additions to the menu which was very much appreciated as well. We booked the Forest House which made getting ready very easy. It doubled as a place where parents could take the little ones later in the evening (we hired a baby-sitter so parents could keep the party going). We opted not to have guests stay on site, but booked buses to shuttle people to and from Canmore, which was easy. Not only were the staff helpful with the communication and setup before the wedding, but genuinely fun people to have at your wedding. Particular thanks to John, Jerome & Tim! Most of all we were thrilled to learn that proceeds from weddings and events go to supporting the kid’s camp programming. We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend. Thanks to John and the CCH team for everything!
I cannot say enough good things about Camp Chief Hector and their staff. We got married there October 13, 2018 and our wedding was a DREAM! From start to finish, both the planning and the event itself went so smoothly I didn't have a single thing to worry about (Which is pretty amazing for any bride!). John was amazing to work with coordinating details with us to make sure our day went off without a hitch. The venue was spotless and absolutely gorgeous, the staff were friendly and energetic with our guests, and the food was outstanding. We are still getting compliments from our guests about what a great meal they had and how much they enjoyed the venue- everyone said it was the best wedding they have been to! I really can't recommend this location enough. The amount of services and perks that are included in the cost of the venue rental is unreal. I really appreciated that we didn't have to look after details like linens, glassware, bartenders, etc. I would absolutely recommend this location to anyone who wants to have a stress free wedding against the backdrop of beautiful Kananaskis!
Great venue, and even better staff!! Awesome place to hold a wedding, the staff made the planning of the day very stress free and the lodge is so beautiful very little decorating is needed. Amazing value, would recommend it to anyone!
If you're reading this, you are likely shopping for a venue and considering lots and lots, so I'll be succinct: - Book this place, it's amazing. - We evaluated over 50 venues throughout BC and AB and Camp Chief Hector (CCH) offered the best overall value - CCH Staff were professional, helpful, knowledgeable, and all round wonderful to work with on our wedding (In particular, John was very patient with our many questions, and his clarity/assistance made our planning much easier) - The venue is stunning! - The venue has lots of space (helped to keep our young guests happy as they could run around) - The onsite "Forest House" was a wonderful option for us (Bride/Groom) and a many other guests for comfortable onsite accommodation - The Head Chef is very nice, and very talented. I recommend contacting them to inquiry about the next tasting event. We had a blast at ours and it really helped to make decisions for our reception dinner. We got married in early May and our guests (over 100) got to enjoy scenic views, various walking trails, Archery, Rock Climbing Wall, Vertical Challenge Course, yard games, live music outside, outdoor wedding ceremony, yummy meals, camping in Tipis, Sun Set outdoor yoga, camp fire and s'more station, and a special visit from a few Llamas I brought in a surprise for my wife. CCH was wonderful in helping us to pull off a fairy tale/EPIC wedding weekend! We had visualized a venue that we could pull of a theme: "Classy in Nature", and Camp Chief Hector was perfect. Good Luck with the planning :)
Camp Chief Hector was a dream! We got married May 12, 2018 (just this past weekend) and it was the perfect weekend at the perfect venue. Honestly I started searching for a venue as soon as I could after getting engaged because I was looking for a specific venue background (meadow surrounded by trees with mountains in the background) and as soon as I saw the meadow before the lake at CCH, I was sold. After touring around the site with John, he told us what would all be supplied by them for the wedding weekend and I couldn’t say yes fast enough. We were given access to the venue at 4pm on Friday until noon on Sunday, we would be provided all linens, plates, silverware, tables, glasses – everything you would need for a reception they were able to provide, as well as food and the bar! We stayed on site at the forest house the whole weekend with our wedding party and immediate family, and it was honestly so relaxing to not have to leave the site after we finished setting up. We were able to begin set up at 4pm on Friday to have everything ready for the wedding the next day, and then we had to be out of there by noon on Sunday, but honestly we didn’t need any more time to get out of there. We had our reception in the Hector Lodge and their blank slate set up system was fantastic because I had such a specific vision in my head, it just all came to fruition because I could do whatever I wanted to the space and make my dream come true. The food was fantastic (thank you Kelly!), the bar was so pretty with such lovely wait staff (thank you to the woman with pink hair who gave me a big glass of water!), and they were so accommodating to everything we required. I would say the only downside is how far it is from accommodations for guests, but we hired a bus service to help our guests get to and from the venue and everyone seemed to enjoy that aspect. As well, there are many places onsite for guests to stay if they so choose. It was truly the best venue we could have asked for and John was so helpful when answering any questions that came up before the big day. Plus, there was no need to leave the venue throughout the wedding day because there were perfect spaces for pictures all throughout the site! I would recommend this venue to anyone who asked me because I couldn’t have been happier with my experience.
Camp Chief Hector is an amazing venue: friendly responsive staff, great food, flexibility to make the event your own, and a truly great Canadian feel. The Hector Lodge has one of the best atmospheres for bringing two families together in full view of the Rockies without being so remote to worry about the drive back home.
The service provided was outstanding. John the camp director and his team of staff were amazing. We also appreciated all the flexibility the camp had that allowed us to truly make the day our own. I couldn't say a negative thing about my experience.
Camp Chief Hector was everything we wanted for our mountain wedding. We used the Hector Lodge and it was a great fit for our 90 guests. Lots of room for dancing and mingling. It was a very beautiful location for photos, and beautiful inside the lodge too. The staff were very helpful and friendly. John was great at answering questions and offering suggestions. The food was delicious and the bar and bar staff were great. We highly recommend this beautiful mountain venue!
Amazing! Words cannot express how grateful we are to have had such an amazing day at CCH. It is the BEST way to enjoy your special day if you love the mountains and would prefer to spend your money to support sending kids to camp. The food was absolutely AMAZING! John and the staff were so wonderful to work with - John made everything seamless. The scenery is stunning. Being able to rent the forest house and have the entire weekend to set things up and take things down made this stress free. Actually. I had zero stress throughout. We really couldn't have picked a better venue. We would 100% recommend the camp for any happy couples searching for an affordable, perfect, mountain wedding!
Camp Chief Hector was everything we wanted from a venue. We used the Hector Lodge and stayed in the Forest House. It was relaxed, beautiful scenery for photos, and beautiful inside the venue as well. The staff were kind, helpful and efficient. The food was delicious and the bar selection was better then we hoped for. We would highly recommend this venue.
Our wedding at camp chief hector was absolutely perfect! We got to stay at the venue for the entire weekend, making set up and take down extremely easy! John always answered our email questions promptly and was extremely helpful every step of the way. Mayra and her team of cooks made us delicious food at exactly the times we requested. Everything was easy going, flexible, and flowed smoothly. If anything went wrong John and his team dealt with it without having to come find us. They set up the exact number of tables and chairs we needed and we just had to rearrange a bit and put our centerpieces on. Late after the dance the staff cleaned everything up for us and even put the centerpieces all onto one table for us to collect the next morning. They know what they are doing; trust the staff and you will have a simple easy wedding! We had an incredible day that could not have been more perfect. Thanks John and the camp chief hector Staff!
We choose the Hector Lodge and Forest House for our spring wedding. We were very please how everything worked out. The lodge was a comfortable fit for our 115 guests, and dance floor, and bar/mingling area. The forest house was a great addition for our wedding party and special guests. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I don't think words can describe how amazing this venue is but I'll try. 1st It's the perfect location outside pictures. No need to travel somewhere to get the beautiful mountain pictures. 2nd Amazing bar selection. They don't just have your typical rum, vodka, whiskey, and Molson Canadian beer. They had amazing craft beer from Grizzly Paw Brewing and the coolest flavoured alcohols. They had a pumpkin spice whiskey that my guests loved! (best priced bar I found in Canmore). 3rd John was amazing and helped me anytime I had a question. He gave vendor suggestions and everything. The only negative is how far you are from Canmore if your guests are coming in from out of town ($50 taxi ride). There is a hotel near by (Stoney Nakoda) but they were awful to deal with. Many of my guests had issues while booking a room through them. One other thing to consider. We rent the bowfort lodge and we had the ceremony in the same place as the reception. Although they can fit 160 in the lodge for the reception when I set up the seats for the ceremony we were only able to fit about 90 seats. So if you're wanting to do the ceremony in the hall keep that in mind when inviting people. However they have location outside for ceremonies.
Camp Chief Hector was the perfect wedding venue for our outdoorsy and fun-loving crowd of friends and family. The staff were incredibly accommodating and flexible, quick to respond to requests and make suggestions, and they quietly ran around in the background cleaning up after our late-night celebration before getting up early to prep for our morning breakfast. The venue itself is stunning with a choice of wide open fields, wooded areas, lakeshore, boardwalks, and a mountain backdrop looking over everything. The variety of bunk houses and dining halls on site meant that we could pick and choose the combination of buildings that worked for our size of group, and it was great having space for our guests to stay. Being able to arrive a day early and set up the reception hall made for a much less stressful wedding day. All in all we wouldn't have changed a thing, and can heartily recommend Camp Chief Hector as a casual and fun wedding venue.
We had our wedding at Camp Chief Hector on November 28. We gave ourselves 3 months to plan the wedding and from the moment we met John at camp in August to the day after the wedding, we felt right at home. The easy going nature of the camp staff kept us humble and calm during all the planning. Great communication from all involved and easily accommodating to our requests! The ability to offer our guests a place to stay at camp before and after the wedding was perfect. Rustic, but warm and comfy, our family and friends were shocked at the hospitality the camp offered. The Forrest house was perfect for Friday night and the longhouse was a great hostel like accommodation for those spending the night and joining for breakfast the next day. The Hector Lodge is beautiful on it's own, with a beautiful fireplace and really no need for extra decorations. The canoe bar is an amazing display and the local flair of the drinks offered was a hit! Huge dance floor and lots of outdoor deck space for fresh air! Our wedding photos had many different options from fields, mountain views, forest trees, skinny poplar trees, boardwalks, a lake, and more. The overall feeling was had was that we were home. We were in nature, with its natural beauty and we felt so relaxed. The crew at Camp Chief Hector seems to love their job and love meeting new people. All of our guests felt right at home and had a hard time leaving. The food was prepared right there in the lodge and there was plenty to go around with all allergies and preferences accommodated without question. No need for outside vendors. This is a naturally beautiful place, perfect mountain getaway, close to the city and easy to find. A hidden gem for those outdoor folks that want rustic, simple and an easy going wedding that allows the focus to be on what really matters - the love and visiting that a wedding brings. Thank you Camp Chief Hector - keep up the good work.
We are so thrilled to have had our wedding at YMCA - CCH. From start to finish, the team at the facility pulled out all of the stops to make our wedding weekend a huge success. Camp Chief Hector was the perfect place for our shabby-chic themed wedding. Willing to negotiate menu, accommodations, bar / service staff and budget choices, the camp coordinator made all of our planning and decision making painless. Our guests still rave about our wedding weekend, the venue and accommodations over one year later. Hector's staff provided impeccable service throughout the weekend, and an aura of class to our wedding reception. For a truly personalized and authentic rustic weekend getaway, YMCA's Camp Chief Hector is the perfect choice. I've recommended this venue to many others since our special day, and will continue to. ~Janis & Terence (Wedding Date: August 30, 2014)
I'm a Wedding & Event planner based in Canmore, Alberta (Postcard Weddings & Events) . I just recently had the opportunity to work with the team at Camp Chief Hector to create a unique, relaxed, really fun camp themed wedding at their venue. Positive about this venue... 1. Budget! This is one of the most cost effective venues in the area. 2. Onsite accommodation. Camp Chief Hector has a variety of onsite accommodation that is really reasonably priced. For guests that prefer a hotel, Canmore is a short 20 minute drive down the road. 3. Space. There is a limited number of venues in the rockies that can accommodate 150 guests plus. Camp Chief Hector is large enough to accommodate a big ceremony, reception and indoor ceremony back-up ( that’s so important!) all within the rental of one space. There’s also space to play lawn games, have a rehearsal BBQ, and a brunch the day after the event 4. Customer Service. The team at Camp Chief Hector was flexible, responsive, and easy to work with. 5. Privacy. Camp Chief Hector is all on it’s own, which means there aren’t tourists enjoying your wedding day with you. You can also keep a party going later than most other venues. 6. Rustic Charm - from the outdoor amphitheatre perfect for a ceremony, to the rustic wood lodge with a charming fireplace, to the cute camp signs that lead guests down the road. One word of advice - you need to book Camp Chief Hector because you love what it is. This venue is not a high end five star venue, it’s a really neat summer camp. It’s not going to lend itself well to someone looking for a 5 course meal and huge orchid centerpieces. It’s a spacious, very well priced, casual, rustic venue with lots of charm. It’s perfect for weekend weddings filled with activities, with a focus on spending time with your guests and having a really good time!
We got married last year at Camp Chief Hector and had such an amazing time! We rented the Bowfort lodge as well as a bunk house for guests to stay in and the health centre for the wedding party. We had everything we needed right there on site and didn't have to worry about how anyone was getting home, which was so wonderful! It was a bit expensive renting all of those buildings so what we did was ask that everyone staying the night chipped in $20 for their stay. It worked out perfectly and made the cost a bit more manageable! Obviously the land itself was incredible, we were married in an open field with the most amazing view of the mountains and then wandered around the woods and by the lake for photos. I have to say for anyone into woodsy themed weddings or are looking for something a bit rustic this is the perfect place. You can either go crazy with pinterest crafts inspired by the site or do nothing at all and still have a beautiful wedding. Our photos came out absolutely stunning and there were so many options for shots. The one thing I really appreciated about Camp Chief Hector and the staff was how flexible they were. We were able to decorate how we wanted, have an open fire for a smores station, bring in our own home made pies and crumbles for dessert and even borrow a canoe for some water shots (under supervision of course)! I felt like I was able to create a wedding that was reflective of my husband and I because I wasn't limited by the typical does and dont's of most wedding venues. I think the only thing I would improve was maybe the food. I wasn't super impressed with it, but then it was just a very simple buffet and at a very affordable price. Compared to other wedding venues it was nice to have the option of something a bit easier on the pocket book though! For anyone wanting to say their "I do's" surrounded by nature and beauty, and in a way that is authentic to them, I would highly recommend Camp Chief Hector!
We recently had our wedding at Camp Chief Hector—the venue was perfect and the staff were beyond compare. John was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish, and was always accommodating and prompt in his replies to our questions. We were both so pleased with the lodge—the space is lovely, the food was excellent, and there was ample space to dance to our live band. It was all we had imagined and hoped for, and would recommend it without question to brides and grooms-to-be.
Our day could not have been better. We got a beautiful fresh covering of snow the day before. The day off was sunny and warm for February with light sprinkles of snow through the day. Most of our guest came from out of province and we were able to house them all for the weekend on site. For those that preferred the comforts of a hotel, the Stoney Nakoda resort is just up the highway and provided a shuttle to and from. John was very accommodating and so helpful from the beginning and all of the staff were wonderful! We used Hector Lodge, which provided lots of space and a cozy atmosphere. We'd heard a lot of good things about the food, and we were not disappointed. Both the reception meal and Sunday morning brunch were delicious! People talked about the food all night. All of our guests had a wonderful time and they are still talking about our perfect "Disney" wedding! I would recommend getting married at camp to anyone!
