About Cairnwood

Behind the high stone walls that seclude Cairnwood from the rest of the world, is a spectacular setting available for weddings and special occasions. Created as an elegant sanctuary and private estate for 19th Century industrialist John Pitcairn. Cairnwood is an architectural masterpiece from the Gilded Age complete with lush gardens and grounds. Cairnwood Estate was designed by Carrère and Hastings in the Beaux Arts style. The meticulous decorative elements blend influences from classical Greek and Roman architecture with French Renaissance ideas. The exterior of Cairnwood shows a mixture of rustic elements and high style. The overall effect is that of a majestic French chateau adapted to the conditions and requirements of American life during the Gilded Age. The estate consists of a main house, adjacent courtyard, garden house, and formal gardens. Just a few feet from Huntingdon Pike are the entrance gate and carriage house. In 1895, a stable, greenhouses, a pergola, three terraced gardens and access to many acres of farmland, surrounded by woodlands, completed the idyllic country home. The estate is located within the Bryn Athyn Historic District and surrounded by some of the most remarkable architecture in the Philadelphia Area including the Bryn Athyn Cathedral and Glencairn Museum. Please join us for our Open House on Wednesday evenings from 6pm – 8pm. Cairnwood is also available for tours on the weekends or during the week by appointment.

Book a private castle for your event at Cairnwood. For over a century, Cairnwood has been hosting wedding receptions within its halls. The tradition began with John and Gertrude Pitcairn opening their home for a marriage celebration in 1896. Reminiscent of a French chateau, Cairnwood’s distinguished architecture, flowering gardens, and expansive lawns provide a distinctive backdrop for a truly exceptional event. Couples welcome guests into their own spacious mansion. The graciousness of the estate provides a setting that departs from the ordinary with endless indoor and outdoor possibilities. Cairnwood is available for sit-down dinners with 200 guests or an opulent stations-style event for up to 275. The rooms, terraces, grand staircase, balconies and gardens inspire couples to create a unique and memorable celebration. Corporate board meetings, business triumphs, presentations, training sessions and holiday parties for hundreds have also been hosted at Cairnwood. The estate provides space for those who think outside of the box when planning corporate events. Access to WiFi, conference calls, golf packages, break-out areas, special tour programs, AV technology and catering are available upon request.
