Our Story

Triple Fresh is one of the oldest continually operated food establishments in the country. The original building was constructed by Gideon Pierce to serve the needs of the growing village of Ercildoun in 1818.  Pierce, a member of the Followfield Meeting House across the street, was a staunch Abolitionist and conductor on the Underground Railroad.

Pierce's store served as the village's post office, and officially established the village's name of Ercildoun.

The Webster family purchased the building and adjacent farm around 1863 when the family moved to Ercildoun from the Lancaster area. Throughout the Webster’s tenure the market changed to meet the needs of the people of the surrounding area. The three generations of Websters sold everything from paint and nails to buggy and Model T parts and gasoline as well as groceries, school books and clothing. Rocking chairs were on the porch so that the Websters could sit with their friends..

Jim Petro purchased the store from Lloyd Webster in 1987. For over 30 years the Petros have modernized the offering of Triple Fresh Market while preserving the small town institution. Triple Fresh continues the traditions of the last 200 years; serving our friends and neighbors, and continuing to act as an integral part of our community.  The Petro family invites you to share in the rich history and heritage of this two-century old landmark.

Our focus will always lie in ensuring our customers are completely satisfied with the quality of product, level of service and overall shopping experience. Triple Fresh will focus on delivering great food and supporting local vendors.

Triple Fresh Neighbors, a registered 501(c)3 charity, began its work in 2018 and is “dedicated to improving the lives of others by acting like a small town neighbor and helping in any way we can.”  This mission is accomplished by supporting local charities and non-profits.
