Where to Begin

Sometimes thinking about having a portrait created can be, well, a little overwhelming. What do I wear? How should I do my hair and makeup? Where do I want the picture to be taken? Indoors? Outdoors? (mind explodes!).

As a professional photographer, I completely get it, but I'm going to be right here to walk you through every step, talk with you about every detail so that you can relax, enjoy having your solo portraits, family portraits, headshot, or commercial photography created, and know you are going to get images; that you will love!

My philosophy on how to create the perfect portrait is to think of it as if you are going on vacation! First, you decide where you want to go, that dictates what clothes your going to bring, and when you're going to go. Creating your portrait is the same. First, where do you want to hang your portrait? What are the colors in that room? What's the feel of that room, casual, formal, fun, themed? I take all of these elements into account when I sit down with my clients to design up their portrait sessions. When we know where the portrait finishes up, then we know where to begin!

Comfort Zone

We all have a comfort zone. Maybe it's your favorite chair, under your favorite blanket, binge-watching your favorite show. Maybe you feel right at home on the track or on the court. Every one of us has our own unique comfort zone, but rarely is it in front of a camera! Maybe it's because we become nervous, or don't like something we see in our pictures, or maybe we are just shy.

I understand having your pictures made can be uncomfortable. In fact, the irony is, no one is more uneasy being in front of the camera than those of us who love standing behind it. I get it! I break through those zones by joking around with my clients, having fun, and finding out what they are truly about. What makes you, YOU! I love finding out what makes a person light up and then take that passion for creating their solo portraits, family portraits, headshot, or commercial photography. Your session should be incredibly fun and the experience of a lifetime! When the session is over, so many of my clients say, "that was a blast! I had so much fun!".

“Aw, Mom! I Don’t Want to Take Pictures?”

Mark hears this about a lot of senior guys, they usually are not that thrilled to do their senior pictures. But at the end of their session with Mark, they all say how much fun it was, and Zach was no exception!

During the session, we got some great shots, but Mark was still looking for that one thing that made Zach excited. While photographing him with his car, Mark asked about some gear he saw in the trunk. When Zack told Mark it was his paintball gear, the man LIT UP!!! Mark knew he finally found that One Thing! Zach starts telling Mark about how he and his friends love to go play paintball, the tournaments they create, and so on. To say he was passionate about paintball would be an understatement. Even though Mark had an in-person consultation with Zach before his session date, this was the first time he mentioned his love of paintball. When Mark asked him to put on his gear, Zach could not get changed fast enough! We think he actually ran inside to change. LOL When Zach saw this digital art piece for the first time, he literally jumped off the couch and shouted! He had a HUGE smile on his face, and his parents loved seeing him so thrilled! THIS… RIGHT HERE, this is where Mark’s passion lies! Seeing senior and parents alike be so thrilled with their portraits that they literally jump and shout, or Mom’s cries… Mark loves either one. Mark LOVES creating images that causes a person to have Zach's excitement! There is just no better feeling than to see our client be so thrilled!

There’s No One Else Like You!

They say a picture should speak a thousand words, but what are those words? Do they describe who you are, what you care about, and what means most to you? Do they reflect the emotions in your heart of what you cherish most? I love learning about my clients, what they are passionate about, what makes them unique, and what they love to do. You are unique, unlike anyone else. You have things that drive you, and you have things that drive you crazy. No one else is just like you, so your portraits shouldn't be just like someone else's!

I am passionate about taking that information and creating a portrait the tells their story that speaks a thousand words about them, not just what they look like, but who they truly are. This is why I love to pick up my camera, because like a piece of paper to an author, the camera is my tool to write, and the subject is YOU! Let's get together over a cup of coffee, talk, and let me tell your story.

Thank you so much… Our family loves the photos! Thank you Mark!
