How would you go about preforming these? See i have googled a lot and all i see is for gay, lesbian and transgender but never for a straight couple unmarried. I have had quite few brides ask me this and I know how to preform them but I mean officiant wise?

Personally, I treat them as weddings with the exception that certain language must be changed per my state's legal statutes.

Because these ceremonies do not result in a legal status of husband and wife, the couple do not have to select someone who has state authority to sign the certificate of marriage as their officiant. I am usually hired because they want a professional to help them and wish for clergy presence at the event.

Here is what I have to say about it on my website with an example of a symbolic ceremony.

I agree with Rev. Fuller. Any commitment ceremony in FL is treated as a wedding with the exception that it is not legally binding. Having a professional perform the ceremony also creates a more formal atmosphere for the couple and guests.

It does not matter if you are straight, gay, lesbian, or transgender, love is love no matter what color you are. Follow your heart. All couples should be allowed to get married no matter what the laws say.

I would treat the ceremony just as a marriage ceremony with a few change in the words. A Commitment Ceremony is just as important to the couple as a marriage. All states should honor this as a legal commitment.
