When are you getting married? And what's your biggest worry at this point?

Messages in this topic - RSS
I'm getting married Memorial Day (yes, like 10 weeks away!), and right now I'm just about freaking out over where I am going to put all the guests. Working on getting group hotel rates, but most of the places I like don't have the rooms! Aarrggh!

When are you getting married and what keeps you up at night?

March 12, 2011 Which is still a good year away. We thought we were lucky when we found a venue that offered a package deal for the wedding, reception and 150 guest. Perfect right! Not so much... Now were finding out the the contract we signed with the venue meant nothing and were being asked to sign contracts with each of the independent parties, D.J., Florist etc. that they use which all have some sort of hidden fee. Biggest worry: What's next weve already signed to the tune of $15,000.

Hi. To eklmn7007-sonst - are you getting married in Canada? If not where? First thing you want to do is find a planner. Your planner should have recommended vendors (photographer, caterer, etc.) they can refer you to. They (planners) are in the position to meet and work with vendors and will be able to direct you to the ones they think are best. For your vendors...one word accomodating. Willing to work with you and be flexible. For a photographer - flexible with packages and time, someone you get along with, you have to like their style, and of course you have to like their work. Hope this helps.

Look into Amelia Island. Close to Atlanta, Jacksonville, Savannah, and Hilton Head Island. Beautiful area. If you know the movies The Notebook and Forrest Gump that is what the area looks like.

I've never been, my significant other is from the area and said it is incredible. In fact, if you want a recommendation for a great photographer then do contact me. He'd be glad to travel back to shoot your wedding in fact we are heading to Hilton Head Island end of April so he can shoot one.

Congratulations!

Short time window, but not impossible. Get a checklist of what you want/need to happen. Meet with your bridesmaids and make assignments for each task. The day of your wedding have a friend or family member who is not involved with the wedding do your coordination. You need someone making sure everything flows for you.

You can go to many of the wedding sites and get a checklist to use for a template. I have one on my site if you want to go get it and download it. You can pick the items that are important to you.

And lastly if you can afford it, hire a planner in your area. Many will do do 'just a little' like be an advisor or more like handling the up front planning (vendors, venue etc.) or your rehearsal and 'day of', or they can do from now through your wedding day.

Good luck!

Hi,
Getting references from each vendor will help. Once you have contacted the references and have asked them questions about the vendor, your instincts should tell you who to choose.
Hoping for the best!

Hi there. What I suggest is breathe ...then use this site and others to look for venues. You have time so decide your number of guests (ballpark), date and time of wedding if you have not picked that yet, wedding and reception same place..those types of things. Some venues let you bring in outside caterers and alcohol, some don't. Those are the things you want to find out. Make a list and compare.

Assume venue, rentals if needed (linens whatever), drinks, cake, decorations will be about 45% of your costs (of course depending on your dress and things like that). You can find checklists on what else to consider while planning on various wedding sites and I have one too if you want to go download it.

If you can, find a planner in the area you want to get a married. Some will have different packages including just your initial planning assistance so that might be the way to go.

You have time so decide what is important to you and then start the process.

Good luck!

Hi,

We are getting married on August 21st. Have everything booked but the churches all require 1 year notice which we didn't have. I am in a mild panick now. We have decided to get married outdoors but I can't find someone in chatham Kent to set up Chairs and maybe a tent or something. We have the reception booked at a Hall so it's just for the actual ceromony that it's oustide. If anyone has any ideas please help!!!!! Feedback Requested

Hi. To the couple in Chatam Kent...not quite sure where that is, but if Chatam-Kent, Ontario Canada look here on Eventective for party rentals in Chatam. There is one. They should be able to help you with tent, chairs, whatever you need.

Hope that helps.

Getting married Nov 6 2010 and my biggest worry is managing the logistics LONG DISTANCE. I am getting married in the Midwest near family but my fiance and I live on the West Coast. And EVERYONE has their own ideas about what I should and should NOT be doing. I need my family's help in the preparations, but the information that they gather for me seems to be slanted towards what THEY like, not what I do. I am especially worried about having set up/take down help on the actual day. Any one else have these issues????

Anyone looking for a great DJ company? We used Starzentertainment and they have a very personal approach with you. Very patient and willing to make your day special. Starzentertainment did our wedding and they did a great job. We changed our location just weeks before the wedding and they didn't get razzled like our caterer or band. They customized our exact playlist and made our dances extra special. The DJ met with us 3 times and did not charge us extra. I couldn't get any of the other dj companies to come out to Byers but they did! 3x's~ I would recommend them to any bride who wants a fair price but the highest quality.

To scarlet_townsend08
Check out places like Costco or if you have AJs Fine Foods in your area. Some place like that. I found flowers that were exactly what my bride wanted at Costco, great price, they were delivered to their house for them. She and her bridesmaids made the bouquets. She put some bead type decorations around hers that hung down just a bit and it was beautiful (Michael's or a craft store). You can do it and not spend a huge amount of money and they are beautiful. Hope this helps.

Hi. Where are you located? You should be able to do it with your gown and photographer for close to that. Just did one here in Phoenix at a wonderful venue with ceremony, reception, buffet dinner. I am assuming you do not have a planner so see if you can find a venue that will discount it since Nov 7, 11 is a Monday . Your gown go to a bridal show that has a fashion show...you can get a beautiful dress at a reasonable cost. Does not have to be a designer name. Your flowers and decorations shop around online for things or craft stores or if you have Costco locally (flowers are beautiful). You can put together your own arrangments and bouquets. Again reasonably priced and beautiful.

If you can manage it, don't skip on the photographer! The cake, music etc. don't last, but your photos do. You have time shop around and don't be afraid to talk to new photographers (of course see their work and get references), but just because new doesn't mean you won't get quaility...good chance you will.

Hope this helps.

I am so glad you posted this because a couple of venues I've checked out have tried to do the same thing and I was skeptical when they were talking about their vendor lists and come to find out these weren't included, just forced on you. It's terrible how people try to score a buck and ruin your day like that.

Hi there! We are getting married on October 24, 2010 in Southern NJ/the surrounding area, but have had an awful time finding a venue we like that fits our tight budget. We're not the ballroom/banquet hall type of people and are instead looking for a venue with a great landscape to hold an outdoor ceremony and tented or barn reception. We love the idea of having a backyard wedding, but unfortunately do not have the yard capacity to hold the event, nor do we know of anyone who does. It's extremely frustrating and it seems like I'm online every night after work looking for venues and calling all over the place. Hopefully relief will come soon! I'm desperate to get past this giant obstacle!

For the couple in Southern NJ. I don't know the area, but if you are thinking outdoor venue then must be nice so are there any nice parks in the area? Out here (Arizona) they require a small deposit. You could go to a party rental company and get the tables, chairs, tent you need for your ceremony & reception. You'd have to caterer the food & drink, but that may be required regardless of where you go.

My fiance and i are getting hitched in May of 2011. I have over a year to get everything squared away, but i am already freaking out. I printed a checlist off the internet, i bought a wedding planner booklet, I am constantly researching on the web, and I feel like all of this is stressing me out even more. I'm hoping that it's all a puzzle that will fit together perfectly. Is it too soon for me to be this crazy? This is my second marriage and this one seems so much more stressful than the last. Hi. If you can afford a planner, find one who offers 'just a little' guidance if you want to do most of this on your own. They will get you started and be available for questions and to help you destress. If you can afford more and don't ant to worry about all of the planning and especially the ceremony/reception you can hire them for that as well. If a planner is not an option, start with your venue. Decide what type of wedding, wedding/reception at the same place, and indoor/outdoor and what is important to you. Some have packages where most of the things you need are taken care of and you can even get an onsite planner for the day of. Some have vendor recommendation lists too.

Hope this helps.

Hi Julie. Startt by taking a deep breath...you have time. Go find a checklist for guidance. There is one on my site and you can print it out or save it to your PC. The most important thing you want to take care of first is venue. Where do you want to get married and is the reception at the same place. You need to have an idea of number of guests before you start talking to venues. What type of venue do you want - elegant, outdoor like a country club....some have packages that will take care of a lot of the things you will need/want - food, drink, linens etc.

Go get the checklist www.desertlightweddings.com and a lot of your stress will go away!

We are in Virginia Beach and have a large family and a lot of friends, but not a lot of money We originally said that we would have our ceremony in May, but due to military scheduling, now it is in October. I am left to most if not all of the planning, but have no clue on what to do. Our guest list is tentative, we have no location, and we are both extremely busy with work. We have thought about hiring a planner, but have a very tight budget and do not know where to start. We don't even have a venue!! Please HELP!

Hello everyone,
I'm getting married October 9, 2010. At the moment I am living a wedding reception venue nightmare. We originally signed a contract to have the reception, dinner and dance at a country club in Topeka, KS. Then, three weeks ago there was an article in the loccal newspaper saying the country club was undergoing foreclosure. Now it's a mad dash to try and find a new venue. We had the contract signed last September. There aren't many venues in the city of Topeka, and the one that is left is shall we say..country. We looked at another venue that was supposedly available. It was beautiful! We all agreed that we wanted it. Then as my mom goes to book the space this morning, the general manager of the space says that the place has been booked all along. Argh!! I just want an elegent reception, dinner and dance.

Check out school vafeterias or VFW post or Nat'l guard armory in the area. You will have to decorate and clean up. but it is cheaper than all other places. Look for the newest schools.

I am still 14 months out on my wedding. I am planning ahead so I dont get all stressed out. I am looking around at prices for things I want and need lol. But my biggest problem is my guest list. I have 68 people I know its not much but it is if I dont have a large budget. I know I live near seattle so its my own damn fault for everything being sooo expensive up here but I want a white wedding. My dad isnt going to be around much longer and he HAS to walk me down the isle. I am daddies little girl and that is the most important part for me.

If your budget won't allow the number of guests, a possibility is to have your wedding/reception for close family and friends and then maybe a more casual get together at your house or something like that or maybe don't do the huge reception, but go for more just cake and drinks. Your guests are there to see you celebrate this day and I know if I was one of your guests I would rather you not stress at this time then try to manage feeding me. Hope this helps

Where are you located and how many guests? Look for a venue with options on food. Many have ranges from buffet to actual sit down dinners. See about a day like Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. You are not competing with a 'bunch' of other couples and many vendors will give you discounts.

We Plan to get married between April and August of 2011 and my biggest worry is Money for the event. Looking for a venue in Houston, TX that is reasonable and I don't mine decorating it or catering the food through family to make up the cost. Any Ideas would help.

Hi Terrell and Micaela,

Paying for your wedding out of pocket is definitely harder than it seems. My husband and I did that through the use of school loan refunds, not to mention we went into debt - I would definitely not recommend doing that.

Perhaps you guys can decided on just how big an affair you want to have, and take a look at realistically how many people you can afford to have there with you. Some couples decide to have a small wedding and bigger reception or dinner; some couples wait until they save up enough money. The most important thing is to really sit down with your fiance(e) and figure out what elements of a wedding you really feel are necessary to have what you would call a "successful" wedding. Maybe you can't have all 200 people there, but 50 would be nice, you know?

My best advice is breathe and keep it simple.

jenisenethen. Both of you make a guest list first, so that you know how much room you will need. Once you do that then it will make choices easier on you as far as the church, reception place,or whichever venue you pick.

well after going back and forth for setting a date we finally have may 14th 2011. at this point my worry is budgeting. we have a year to plan this event and were just now starting to interview wedding planners. how we decided to do this was to meet with a few planners and see what their offering for their wedding packages. our dream cermony we love to have it outside. i know that save us a big chunck of money by doing that. but the one reason we are fearful of a outdoor wedding is weather. may is kind of unpredictable weather wise. we know the location we want to have our wedding at and that is media pennyselviania. see we wanted to do our wedding at this park in media pa but were not sure if we be allowed to cause its a public park. our hearts are set on doing a outdoor wedding but my family thinks we should just do the cermony and reception in doors. now our orignal plan was to do a outdoor wedding and just do the reception at a hall. any ideas on how to do a wedding outdoors when the weather is so undpredictable?. Feedback Requested also our theme we decided to do spring. now my mom wants me to do white roses for my bouquet but i have my heart set on my favorite flowers which are wildflowers. she thinks do all traditonal wedding when me and my soon to be husband want to do things a lil different. like for instance i want to wear a lace dress but not have it white. and he wants to wear a white tuxedo instead of black and white. were on a pretty tight budget like about 116,000.00 to 118,000.00 . our biggest fears are we wont be able to pull everything off with this budget. help us please!

First of all breathe. You have time. Find a wedding planning checklist (you can google for one or go to my site and download it www.desertlightweddings.com). The things to think about is location for ceremony, reception, number of guests, indoor/outdoor, formal/not formal the general things. Very important is determine the budget you have. You can do it reasonably (I just did a blog for planning one under 15K & to me that amount would be a luxury!).

Once you have an of what you two want and what you can afford (or whomever is paying for it can), then decide planner or not to help and if yes, how much help. Entire process or just day of coordination. If entire process then find your planner and he/she will help you with the rest. If you are goind to do on your own then find your venue. Many have packages and are willing to work with you to keep within your budget. Don't skimp on your photographer - your photos are your memories! Your DJ is important too as he/she will keep the reception flowing (under the guidance of your planner).

If no planner on your big day, find a friend or family member not closely involved and ask them to manage things and handle problems so you don't have to worry.

Hope this helps.

Hi. Determine the number of guests and if you want indoor/outdorr reception and type of food....know your budget and then start looking around. Many venues have packages to work with. Be sure to ask for a military discount. A lot of vendors offer them, I know I do and any savings helps!

For the 'guest paying for their own wedding...Relieve some stress by doing what works for your budget. If you need to just have a reception that has cake and drink, do it. If you can serve food, look at your options with the venue. IIf you have to go for a week night/day do that. Many places and vendors offer discounts for off nights. I know when I attend a wedding, I am there to see my family or friends getting married and truthfully the reception whether cake only or a sit down meal is not the important thing, but their happiness is.

Hey, we are getting married July, 10th 2010... so far I got a Vera Wang dress for only 66$ from a girl who never got to wear it... for cheap dresses and all sorts of other wedding goodies try www.recycledbride.com The only thing we are having a hard time with is the PLACE!!!!! We were going to do it at a friends cabin on the lake but with around 80 people attending, there will more than likely not be enough room... we are on a tight budget like bad... and are looking for a park that we can have our ceremony and reception at for FREE! We are getting married either April 30th or May 7th 2011. My fiance is from England and I'm from California near Sacramento and we are getting married near my home. My two biggest worries right now are the priest not getting back to me so I can set my date and my fiance's family not being able to attend. I really need to get a date set so they can buy their tickets and reserve time off from work as soon as possible.

Hi. I'm confused...why won't they take your reservation until August? That surprises me a bit as they should be welcoming you and your deposit with open arms. I'd go back and ask them and if they still won't look elsewhere. The other place that is beyond your budget...do they offer packages...can they negotiate with you? See if you take some of the items off what they offer if you could possibly afford it. If you are working with a planner, have him/her do this for you.

Me and my fiance' are getting married hopefully on May 12, 2012. We are planning a beach wedding so I'm worried about everything....lol. Plus with him leaving for deployment in the next 4-6 months for a yr, its gonna get harder to plan without him. We have found the place to have it for a really good price. Just gotta get all the other things down, like the reception. We want to spend no more than $5,000 and I really hope we can stick to that. Our package deal is only $1,200. So everything else has to fall into the other $3,800. So I got my fingers crossed.

Hi. What part of the country are you getting married in? With your package is that ceremony only and what is included? You can do this on your budget, but you need to plan. How many guests are you inviting? What is the food, beverage you would like to serve? Flowers you can do from a place like Costco, your invitations from there as well or other online sites that are very reasonable, you can do your own decorations...craft store, like Michaels. Just did one and they kept their costs down by doing some of the 'work' on their own and it was beautiful. Check for military discounts, many vendors offer them. Look for package deals. For example, we just did a full planning by me and you get your photographer free...amazing deal. Thank you for all this advice. I will definitely look into everything. This is information that I had actually had been trying to do now. We are getting married in Virginia. Virginia Beach, Virginia to be exact. With the package, it includes the wedding officiant and their fee, professional photographs of us, and being able to be married on ANY beach in the area with as many people attending that we want to be responsible for. We have decided since we both have large families to make it to 100 guests. There are also add-ons to the package that we are getting such as additional photographs, a DVD, flower girl's basket, ring bearer's petals, fresh flower bouquet. As far as food and beverage, we were thinking some kind of buffet. We also have to find an rain location b/c this package doesn't include one as well as an reception area and catering company. We are getting an $100 discount on the wedding package, by the way with him being in the military.

Doing a reception for 100 people and paying for all the other things you need for your wedding with a $3800 is unrealistic if you plan to have a party with food, beverages and quality entertainment.

As a Wedding Coordinator/Planner in Long Beach I suggest to all my brides to be "UNIQUE". Because their wedding will reflect them and their significant other. For me each bride is beautiful!!!!

Finally picked the date - 10/10/10 - can anyone suggest a great inexpensive venue around Ft. Lauderdale/ Pompano Beach? We are only expecting around 50 people. Thanks!

I am supposed to be getting married July 9th 2010 but the hall we were having it at fell through. The lady was extremely rude, A friend of the family can rent the hall for much cheaper because he is a police officer but the lady said it is unfair to let them do that because then everyone would want to which is complete nonsense. We are on a extremely tight budget since we had to move the wedding up due to important out of town family members not being able to make it in on our original date. I am stressing because everything seems to be falling apart. No hall, no officiant. We couldn't book an officiant until we had the hall but since the lady was a completely rude and said if people get word...who the heck would blab about someone renting the hall for us for way cheaper except for her. The price only is for the hall and soda drinks and you onlu get it for 5 hours. We provide linens and such. The hall is $400 plus we have to pay for table covers which aren't cheap. We're making all the food hoping to save some dough there, alchohol, deserts, cake, decorations etc. It all adds up. My step dad is a DJ so thats taken care of. I already have mostly everything else taken care of but the hall. I am running dry. My fiance just got promoted in his job and though it would normally help in other situations it hurt us because I had to quit my job for a while because of his hours and not having anyone to watch our son. I'm going back to work next week but still there's no way we can afford everything now. We were counting on getting the hall for cheap. We are paying for everything ourselves. No help from family besides cooking. I am so stressed it's unreal. I thought we had the date set in stone yesterday but then the wicked witch made everything fall apart. Doesn't look like our wedding is happening this year.

Stressful time...where are you located? Can you try a VFW, maybe a park in your area or something like that. How many guests? Could you do it in a backyard if not too many people are attending? Talk to local hotels to see if they have a facility you can rent for a few hours. If you are doing an evening wedding, think about moving it to earlier in the day or even a weekday...many venues will give you discounts for 'off days' If I understood the food, DJ, linens are all covered and you just need a venue and someone to officiate. If you are not set on a specific person to officiate talk to others to see if they are flexible with letting you hire them while looking for your venue. Explain the situation. Lastly is the lady who siad no to your friend renting it for you the owner? If not, escalate it if you really want that venue. Good luck.

How ironic lol my hubby and i are renewing our vows in July as well...it will be 20 yrs for us and we want to celebrate that. Ours is July 10th but our anniversary is the 14th..my only problem is finding a place to have it within $300.00.

My husband and i are renewing our vows July 10th 2010. My daughters are going to be in our wedding standing up with me. I live in louisville, ky and i am trying to find a venue for under $300.00. Most places want $400.00 to $500.00 and i cant afford that. I still need a caterer..a friend of mine was going to do it but for a hot meal she said it would be about $800.00 for 100 people. That is crazy. She said she would do sandwhiches and salads for about $200.00...much better lol. But i do want a DJ i am thinking of asking a friend to be my DJ or one of my cousins.

Just got engaged May 3rd, 2010. Always the maid of honor never the bride, been in over 10 weddings and I have no idea how ya'll dealt with all the stress of making decisions. We are just at the beginning and I am already ready to give up my dream wedding and go for getting married at a chapel with just immeditate family. Im stuck compiling a guest list...and I know too many people that I would like to come but 90% of all the guest will be coming from out of town... atleast 4 hrs away or more. Stress is that I can not think of a nice way to just ask everyone that is not in town if they would consider making the trip without having them RSVP before I even buy the invitations. ANY ADVICE? I cannot move on till we have a final number of guests... then I can jump into budgeting, signing venues, and then the fun stuff like my dress, colors, flowers, cake... etc.

I just got engaged May 7th, 2010!!!! My biggest thing right now is trying not to over plan or over think! We set our date for August 20, 2011... and though it may seem FAR AWAY it really isn't! I have tons of friends, family, church family, co-workers etc. etc. and if i could i would invite everyone, but for the budget i realize we have to make some sacrifices! i want a photo booth... He says, "NO!" BUT my biggest dilemma is over thinking the whole process cause im a control freak, professionist.....If i could I would do it all myself! but i know that's impossible!!! ANY ADVICE!

To the guest getting married August 20, 2011. From one control freak to another determine what your budget is and close family and friends you want to come celebrate with you. You can add others after that. People understand it costs to have a wedding and reception so I think those not really close to you will understand. Once you have the intial list then decide on venue, food, etc. Depending on your budget you may have to reduce the number of guests if you go for a more pricey venue and food service. Go find a checklist (you can find one on my site www.desertlightweddings.com) and it will give you ideas as you plan. It will help keep you sane and not so stressed out. You do have time, but as you said it is really not that far away. If you can afford a planner, find one in your area to help you...our job is to alleviate the stress for you. If you can't, take it one step at a time. Hope this helps get you started.

Hi. A very emotional time for sure and if good old fashioned talking to them does not do the trick....ask a family member or close friend of theirs to stay with them. Each will have someone to be with and keep them calm. Is dad walking you down the isle? If so, mom will already be seated. It is not uncommon nor a slight at all in cases like this for your father to sit in the 2nd row behind your mother. Good luck!

I'm getting married on June 5, 2010. I am very excited about it. The only thing I don't have right now is someone to do my wedding cake. I had someone who was going to do it for me as a wedding gift but she is now going to be out of town and I don't know what to do. I thought about doing cupcakes myself, but the stress of that will be to much. I just booked my photographer so that is one less worry. My mom and future husband's dad and mom are preparing the food for us and my uncle paid for the reception hall. We are getting married at a Bed and Breakfast and the woman who owns it is so willing to work with us. She is only charging us $100.00 to have our wedding there. Good luck in your upcoming nuptuals and I wish you a long and happy marriage.

My wedding is in 87 days. I don't know what to do as far as a reception hall. My mom is a member at a fire company near by but it only holds 80 people without a dance floor and without space to put a DJ. I want there to be space for a DJ and a dance floor and a bar to be available to our guests. Another place we looked at charges $425 but you get $50 back when you are finished using the hall. We are looking for a cheap place nearby that way we don't have to travel all over just to get to the reception. I haven't found a single place so far. NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE. Help!

I am getting married April 23, 2011. I am not worried about much at all. I don't have my guest list done but I have my venue book my photo guy book and a lot of really good ideas. Like I have already started to make some stuff for the reception area. I want to be cost effecitive with a personal touch. So far I have spent close to 5000 just on NON refundale deposits and bookings. The only thing I am worried about is that my mother will not want to use a caterer and that she will be stressed out making sure all the food is correct. Other than that I am stoked about getting married and want to tell everyone out there who is getting married CONGRATS!!!

I am getting married December 18, 2010. I have never wanted a big wedding but we want to go away to get married. My first stumbling block is where? Does anyone have any experience with the Biltmore Estate or the Stowe area of Vermont in the winter? We don't want to go to a warm climate (we like the idea of snow in the background of pictures). If anyone else has done a winter destination wedding in New England or on the east-coast with great results, I'd be forever grateful to hear about it. Sometimes online just makes things more complex as they don't answer the questions you really want to know!

Best of luck to all future wives!

Thank you for mentioning this site. My mother heard about it from a buyer for Lord and Taylor. Were the dresses of quality? I'm not worried about sizing as I plan to order it larger and spend money on having it tailored.
Is it really trust-worthy? Also, how long should I expect it to take to get to me (I live in the mid-west...US)?

Thank you in advance!

I am getting married on April 23, 2011. We already have our venue booked, however, I am not sure about the place anymore. I went to a wedding there this past weekend and it was really crowded for 150 people. However, the place is AMAZING. I loved everything about it... but the reception hall is a bit small. Does anyone know of good places in Olympia, WA for a reasonable price? We have awhile to our wedding so we just want to make sure we didn't leave out any other options. Are place has a deposit but it is refundable. Thanks everyone and happy planning.

Still a good 10 months and 8 days until our big day. I think right now our main concern is finding a place within our budget. We have looked at a few places, but they weren't within our price range.. Too expensive unfortunately, b/c they were gorgeous places. We have a list of all of the guests, and the play-list for our wedding and reception, and 1 for everything we need.. I just want to make sure it's everything that he wants it to be as well as me. My problem is I feel too pressured by others to do things a certain way when I want to do it a totally different way.. Anywhoozles, I'd have to say what keeps me up at night is worrying how it is going to turn out and is everyone going to be happy.

My wedding date is set for August 11th, 2010 and I have to find a new location for the ceremony because it was going to be on the beach in Seaside, FL but now I've decided to stay away from the Gulf. I'd like to have it on a beach in San Diego but I'm finding accomadations to be much more expensive than what I already booked in FL. Another thing is the rental company I used says they're only giving refunds if the beach is closed during our stay! I don't have time to wait around and figure that out! I am so stressed over this horrible catastrophe in the Gulf!! I might have to find a venue on short notice in St. Louis, MO since CA is so expensive. Anyone have any advice?

To help stay in budget. Write a list of must haves and then a list of nice to have, but not important to you two. Then with the must have list do some price shopping and if still not within your budget see what you can maybe reduce like instead of a florist, order your own and make your bouquets or instead of a planner for day of coordination, get a friend or family member not close to the wedding to help. Just look at it from what do we really need and what is a want. Once you have the I need this (venue, officiant, photographer...don't skimp on your photographer, cake, food or just do cake - your guests are there for you two, not the food if you have budget money left over you can then add on from the nice to have list.

Where are you located? Don't overlook some of the hotels. Even some of the 'chains' have nice areas outside if the weather permits and also their banquet rooms. While one minute it is a meeting place, they can (and you can) turn it into a beautiful reception hall.

Since it appears you are open to travel, but a beach is what you are interested in. How about South Carolina? Just came back from a wedding on Hilton Head Island and absolutely gorgetous. If this sounds like something you might consider, email me and I'll ask my 'partner/ favorite photographer' for some suggestions for you. He has over 20 years experience on HHI.

I have several cost effective ways you can save money and I'm working with about $3000 for my wedding budget. Let me know how I can help. I've saved a ton of money in several areas and I'm happy to pass on my advice.

Thanks for the suggestion but I considered Myrtle Beach and then realized the oil could reach there by August too!

Oil in Myrtle Beach? You should be fine with anything on the east coast. The west coast in the gulf is where all the problems are. And they are expecting that oil will be here by August, maybe earlier if they don't get things under control soon.

I've read that the oil will eventually get pulled aroud FL and then up the east coast by the Loop current. I am already planning for San Diego and Coronado Island. Thanks for your advice though.

Hey Kris, what keeps me up all night other than my job, because I work overnights, is figuring out what vendors to use for the wedding and what more I can do to keep the wedding budget down. We have an overall budget of $10,000. But for everything wedding including favors is $5,000. And $5,000 for the honeymoon. I am getting married June 25, 2011.

When are you getting married and what keeps you up at night?

Call an attorney in your state. Make an appointment to see that attorney. Have that person look over the contract. Find out from that attorney if you can proceed with a lawsuit for breach of contract. If there is a breach of contract, file a lawsuit with either that attorney to represent you,or go to the courthouse and file it yourselves. If you file the lawsuite yourselves, and both you and your fiance' signed the contract, both of you need your drivers license to proceed with the lawsuite. I cannot give you any more information than that because I have an associates degree in paralegal. Some attorneys will have a free consultation, and if you decide to go that route, you can hire that attorney. Also, if the venue is registered with the better Business Bureau, you can get in contact with them in your state and file a complaint that way. You need at least 4 copies of all of the contracts that you have signed. One to give to the attorney, one to the courts when you file your lawsuite, one to take to court with you, and the original one you keep for your records. 5/7/11

Trying to A) find a venue, and B) figure out our fundage. We just moved to our first home, so money is really tight, but we can't really ask the fiance's parents for money because they gave us 10k for the house, and my family doesn't have much money...so we may have to push it back a year. *sigh*

To the post above me. How big is your back yard? You can do your ceremony and reception in the back yard. Have your cake on a dining table so it won't melt. There is your venue and reception! Food, have either catered or do a potluck. Right there, that just saved you a lot of money. If it rains, you can do it in the biggest room of your house. And guess what? You have your house warming party at the same time.

A menu to feed 200 people in my backyard/outdoor wedding in 4 weeks. I've got someone cooking chicken breasts on the grill, but everything else is up for grabs. I want it to be nice, but easy to put out and serve. Any ideas?

my biggest worry right now is that the wedding could be anytime from August 2010 to June 2011. gotta love the military right? if it so happens to be 2 or 3 months away, I don't have my dress...because its special ordered.

To the guest in the military...I've heard this before. Sorry for the stress and thank you to you or your fiance (or both) for your service. Since this is so up in the air, planning anything really is difficult (venue, vendors, inviting guests and as you said your dress). Maybe what you could do is when you can have a small ceremony with family and friends and go very casual or go to a venue that offers a lot of what you require. This serves 2 purposes...you are married and your close family/friends are there. Once your schedule is more open and you can plan, do a celebration and invite those on your guest list.

I agree totally, contact the States Attorney's Office and take them to court! If they can't provide what they promised u then they should be held liable for it. Your wedding planning should be enjoyable and happy, not full of deceit and treachery.

Good Luck couple and just don't take this lying down, call the media and get them involved.

I haven't even started booking yet. I'm still trying to find the venue, and everything else too. Only thing we've done so far is picked out the dress and tux. We haven't even bought them yet. Only reason im worried about the money situation is we just move out on our own, AND had a baby. all within 3 weeks of each other.

To xxkachina17 - with a new baby added to your planning, make your budget and see what you can/can't do right now. You don't have to have a huge blow out ceremony and party. Have those closest to you attend something smaller now and maybe just a party at your home and later you can have a huge celebrations. You two (three ) are starting your life together...what an exciting time. Don't add stress to you.

We have ours scheduled on Feb. 19th. Next month is our 4 yr anniversary of us being together but I dont like summer too hot for me. Im more of a fall to winter type of gal. Also I didnt want to have the same month as others in our fam. =P I know silly but HEY! thats me. Dec. is when our son turns 1 Jan. is when our daughter turns 3. Mar. is when my SIL (sis in law) & hubbys anniversary is April is my fiance (& my SILS bday is-they are twins) and so on....so Feb. just seem right. =) oh BTW I already know what dress I want as well but haven't bought it yet either. We don't even have the tux yet! I have an idea on how I want the bridesmaids dresses to look but not the MOHs dress. I have my flower girl dress but haven't bought it either. EVERYTHING is sooo much but Im starting to buy little by little & we are going to see if his grandpa can do the food bc he used to be a chef. =D Hope you are doing ok!

My wedding isn't until April 2012, but its finding a venue that has what we want. With the weather in this area being so completely unpredictable we need indoor and outdoor options (we want to get married outside but if there's 10 feet of snow that's not happening!!!)

My biggest worry right now is finding the right park for the wedding and reception. Or a venue that has both indoor/outdoor settings. Party favors are later. It is finding the right venue for a beach theme wedding under $5,000. Most places are asking for My entire wedding budget.

You must be excited. This is my second marriage as well. You have your entire bridal party it sounds like. Have you looked into a resort with a mountain view or a lake view? What time are you looking to have your wedding? And where are you located?

I'm in Cortland, NY. Most of the places that we found on line are already booked even for our new wedding date! What I am worried about is that our guests will think we went super cheap. I am looking for a lake or a creek to get married by because we are doing a beach theme wedding.

I am getting married April 16, 2011 and I don't have a reception venue. I am nervous that I will not be able to find one in my budget. I only have 262 days left and haven't done anything.

I live in the Nashville, TN area, if any body knows about a great venue to host a reception.

My biggest worry is not just the venue. It is getting the party favors together. And making sure that the whole thing goes off without dropping the ball.

Go back to some of your favorite restraunts. They may do catering. How many are you planning to have? Do tastings that way. For cakes, bakeries offer cake tastings before you buy one. That is how we found our caterer and reception sight.

My name's Tiffany, and I'm marrying the best friend I've ever had (& I've only known him 10months) on June 4, 2011. My biggest fear is that we won't get married at all. We don't have the money to do it, and we're not looking for anything big; only simple, but everytime we give an idea to my mom that we like she's automatically, "FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO PAY FOR IT THEN IM NOT."-I can't keep doing it and I need help.Any DYI tips and cheap ideas would help. Please send to t.erin92@yahoo.com. Thanks

We're getting married 9/25/2010. 47 days. All set except for decorating the reception hall and flowers. One of my only "dream wedding" features has always been to have gobs of flowers. But I got hit when the economy turned so I have to limit the flowers to probably just bouquets & boutenaires. Made an appt w/ grocery store florist, but I'm not confident in her. Rest of decore will have to be fake flowers, which I don't love. I have tulle, I'll get small lights. Centerpieces are all set,but I can't picture how to frame the 60+ foot wall of windows that looks over the water. It's a very plain white wall so it needs something! I feel like I've used up all of my creativity at this point. And I keep grinding my teeth.

I only checked Costco. My appt w/ the grocery store is Fri. Someone was going to help us do the flowers, but she passed away, that's why it's sort of late in the game. I did a post on this site for a local florist (or someone who has a side business/hobby).

I have seen some people are struggling with finding a photographer, I am in Canada but can travel to where ever your holding your wedding.

As other people have suggested it's important to get a feel for what type and style of photography each photographer does.

You may check out my work at www.sarafinchan.com or email me at quentin@sarafinchan.com with any questions you may have regarding capturing your perfect day.

I want to get married September 6th, 2011 because September 6th is when my fiance' and I first met but, it's a Tuesday and I don't know who could make it. I also want to have it at my favorite beach (Brookings, Oregon) but, my fiance's family all lives in Portland and he doesn't think a lot of them would make it. Then there is the whole money issue... Having a wedding is so expensive I'm not sure how I'm supose to pay everything... it can be stressful sometimes. Then I just think of my loving fiance' and say everything is worth it.

I just got engaged a month ago. were planning on getting married in April. Were both currently deployed and finding a place to have the wedding and reception is hard. Right now we dont care about the cost. we need aplace to get married and have the reception. What's making it more hard is we want to be able to have an open Bar. Food, decorations, DJ, Invitations, and cake are all taken care of. A place that provides tables and chairs for at least 200people. I'm trying not to panic on this but i need help

Our wedding is due to be held sometime within the first week of April, 2011. As you can tell, based on the fact that we've yet to book a venue, we're in the very early stages of the planning proccess. We are hoping for an inexpensive gathering, while upholding a certain magic. Initially, we had planned to wed in Las Vegas, which would have cost us $2500 for the package, which included everything from food, drinks, photography, and wedding and reception hall. We hope to not exceed that limited now that we plan to wed in St. John's, NL. Canada. If anyone has any suggestions on ways to save money, we welcome it. Thanks!

I am not getting married until next year but my biggest worry right now is securing the venue. I am getting married in Houston, TX and I hear that September is a popular wedding month. Why does this have to be sooo difficult and why is everything costing an arm and leg. It's like they want you to go in debt to get married. I don't see how that is going to make the start of a new life happy to know you're paying for it for years if you charge it...

Hello. Both dresses are beautiful. What kind of wedding are you having? formal? semi-formal? What time are you getting married? just think of those questions when picking the dress.

The first dress is more formal. So Its great if your have a evening formal Wedding.
The second dress is more fun, its more semi-formal afternoon wedding.

So it all depends what you are looking for in the dresses. They are both wonderful so which ever one you pick it will be beautiful.

Hi everyone! Congrats on all the weddings///! I'm renewing my wedding vows on May 27,2011, it will be our 10 year anniversary. We never actually had a wedding so we want this one to be a little more traditional and we want to be able to invite all of our friends and family this time (approx 100 guests). We have a very small budget around $4K. Is this even possible??? We know that we want an evening wedding, we already have a few things taken care of: officiant (FREE), invitations (I'm making), DJ (I use to work for radio) and we have a photographer (FREE). We want a magical night of a short ceremony and a great celebration afterwards. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Finding a venue that wont take an arm and a leg. I have inquired several places and they want almost $100.00 per person, give me a break! I think a reasonable amount would be around $35.00 per person, but then again thats just me. I'm still looking for a good venue so I can book it, my wedding is next September but this is the biggest and hardest part of it all. Any suggestions out there? I'm looking in the Orlando area or Lake County. Thanks for reading.

I have a friend that is a wedding planner, SHE IS AWESOME and VERY REASONABLE, check out her website at http://cherrytreeoccasions.com. I know there is problems with getting items shipped to Canada or to even find them. Did you have a contract? or had a deposit to hold your date? That could be a legal matter. You could always right a letter to the owner about your horrible situation. Any good business owner will try to correct the situation. Maybe you can get another date with at a discount rate, or complimentary extras.

A new years eve wedding great! I hope you can find someone with short notice. Just a suggestion if you can not find anyone for your date. Do you have a friend or family member that would be willing to or you would love to be married by? They can become certified minister online and in less than a hour. I believe the fee is less than $100! A close and trusted family or friend officiant can make for a very personalized wedding ceremony, and they are already coming for the wedding! guaranteed minister!

Best Wedding Wishes

Congrats Tif! You can absolutely have the magical celebration you are seeking. Just need to be crafty and creative. Do you or friend/family member with a great landscape backyard to have your short ceremony and reception? My other suggestion would be to find a local park or community center they usually have very reasonable rates. Since your event is in the evening you can either serve light appetizers or just a cake and punch reception. Or if you have the help can have a partial prepared meal (like the meat,, its less expensive to prepare) and purchase the sides.

You want a great celebration after your short ceremony so you might want to focus on the atmosphere. 100 people about 10 tables with 10 people each, Your centerpieces can be pictures of you and your hubby through the last 10 years on trips or other captured moments through the years. Have family and friends share some stories about you. If you have couple that have been longer than 10 years have them give you advice for the next 10 years. You describe your day as magical that means great music and most importantly Lighting be sure to include various levels of light, candle light, twinkle lights, or lanterns! Your off to a great start, best of luck to you!

Happy 10th Wedding Anniversary Planning!

The Dollar Store should be your best friend! You can get small bowls for flowers and fill them with water and floating candles with ribbon in your colars on the rim of the bowl ( the ones I used were more like a small flower vase but more rounded and I tied the ribbon around the neck). I did 40 of them and it cost be $80 plus ribbon, which we used from the bouquets, as my mother made all of them in silk flowers.

It is possible to realize your dreams on a budget. If you would like more ideas, do not hesitate to contact us for more information.

Best of luck with your wedding!

It seems there are alot of posts about where to wed. If you'd like some ideas then I've got some samples at the bottom of this page, when you click on them it takes you directly to the venue: http://www.oursimpleceremony.com/cost.htm Contact me if you're getting married in FL! Best wishes :-)

A wedding can be planned on any budget. You just have to be creative. Limiting your guest list, doing appetizers and cake only, having the wedding on a Friday night or Sunday, having the wedding and reception in your home or yard; these are just a few ideas.

Where are you located?
Approximately how many guests?
Do you have a church in mind, or an alternate location for the ceremony?
Do you have a general idea on your total budget?

This will help those of us that are here to help you, give you better information.

Congratulations! First thing you need to do is determine your budget. This is your meter for everything else. Venue, decor etc. If you have flexibility great, but I have found most couples do not and staying in budget is very important (you don't want to start out in debt)! Next make 3 lists...have to have; we want, but can do without; and finally if we have extra money let's do it.

So now you have budget, an idea of guest count, and your lists. Pick your date and search for your venue. If you are flexible on your date you may be able to get discounts with venue and vendors especially for a weekday wedding. After your venue, the rest falls into place (catering if not done through venue, DJ, photographer etc.). If you can hire a planner at least for guidance, I suggest you do so. He/she will help keep you on track and under budget!

I have a Couple's Checklist on my site, feel free to download it. This will give you ideas as you continue planning!

If you have questions, email me directly and I'll point you in the right direction (no charge).

Getting married in 2011 and my biggest worry is finding the best photographer that I can. I want someone that has an artist's approach, one that can capture the beauty of my day and almost the future of our lives together...maybe they are out there!

I'm getting married Feb 25, 2011

My biggest worry is making sure we get a photographer that knows what they are doing. I hate to pay tons of money for a mediocre photog. The photos are the everlasting memories and I want them to be amazing. I'm doing an out of state wedding so it's hard when you can't physically go speak to them and see their work.

Alisha - where is your wedding? I suggest you look at their portfolio, talk to him/her, ask for references.

My preferred photographer travels and has over 22 years experience in weddings, models, family portraits, architecture, etc. He's been published as well. He is amazing, people love him, reliable, and offers great deals. I refer him first to all of my couples and have even used him for a photo shoot of my own for a modeling contest (first time in my lfie I liked how I looked in pictures). While you are looking, check his work and talk to him. You will not be sorry you did. For Guest on 11/1 looking for a photographer. I'm doing a cut and paste from what I just suggested to Alishia for a photographer:

We're getting married in 6 months (the 188 day countdown Eventective popped up was the first one I've seen for us and it definitely put it in perspective). My fear is that we'll run out of food or that our guests will have trouble getting from the ceremony to the reception.

I am getting married July 15, 2011 and my biggest worry is that everything is going to go over budget and that means that me and my groom to be will not be living together for a few months. We are trying to make sure that we get a wedding in and right now we live in seperate locations and are trying to move in together but at this point we are looking at a huge price to do everything so close up. The budget is $6000 and idealy we would like for everything to come under $4,000 but it doesn't look that way. The only other thing we know to do is push the wedding from July to November and double the budget. Huge worry right now!

Dear WeddingWishes2011,

You can most definitely do your wedding for $4000 or less In July! Staying with in budget worries most couple, even doubling your budget in November will worry you in some other way. A July wedding for $4000 will require you to be flexible and creative when planning your wedding. The day is really about you and your hubby to be, so don't get caught up in the wedding should- have's hype! An imitate and personalized day is way more memorable that a huge wedding soiree! Start with a small guest list 50 or at least less than 100. Have a small intimate wedding, then when you move into your own place hold a party for friends that could not share on your wedding day. Other low cost options; A dessert and ice cream bar, or an appetizer only reception. Think of a variety treats to cool down guest on a hot July evening like Adult Popsicles! Check local community centers, parks and other venues to have your wedding where you are allow to bring your own catering. A private residence, check with family or friends willing let you have a small elegant wedding at their home! Local dollar store or craft store items can make fabulous wedding centerpieces, and decor send wedding invitations via Evite.com for free! Don't be afraid to take a few non traditional steps to have a wedding day done your way!

The BEST Weddingwishes2011!

ANFlores1485!

These are common worries for most couples! No worries.........

Are you having a buffet or seated meal? If seated meal make sure you get all those RSVP's from guest at least 2 weeks in advance, so you can properly plan for guest attending. Most venues will have a few extra meals on hand just in case and charge you at the end of the event, but try to avoid this by calling unanswered RSVP'd guest. Having a buffet style meal? Think about having servers to spoon the food to guest plates for the first go visit to the line, to make sure all guest eat, then guest can self serve seconds and thirds!

To help guest get from ceremony to reception have copies of the directions available for guest at the sign in table, or place them in guest seats at the ceremony. You might be able to have your officiant make an announcement at the end of the ceremony to see your attendants, the best man or maid of honor for directions.

Best Wedding Wishes!

I am getting married June 11, 2011. However, my biggest worry right now is find a place to have our reception at a reasonable price, a photagrapher and a DJ.

we are getting married 9-10-11 and have still not found a back up venue in case our outdoor beach wedding gets postponed due to heavy winds or a hurricane. The rental company will not put up the tent if the weather is too strong. Does anyone know of large halls for aproxiamately 170 people?
