hi guys! I'm planning on sharing a sweet 16 with my best friend since her birthday is only 2 days away from mine.
We live in NYC and we're looking for somewhere cheap....we're willing to spend like a total of $500-600
and we want to rent an area with a dance floor. If possible, we could order food from another area or at the place, doesn't matter but it would REALLY help if you guys knew some locations for a good price
our birthdays in late may
PLEASE HELP!!!
desperate~~~

Is your budget including everything like venue and food or just the budget to rent the venue? $500 does not go very far in NYC. You have the Merchant's House Museum that looks like it is slightly in the budget but I do not think you can bring your own food. There is the Mount Vernon Hotel and Musuem- they say they work with small parties and small weddings. You may also want to explore restuarants in the area that have private spaces. They may allow you to bring your own food if you give them a corking fee for beverages or let them supply dessert. If you can give us more specifics that would be great. If you are looking for any nice favors and/or event accessories check me out. I would be glad to help. Good luck.

Your best bet is to look into community centers or the YMCA/YWCA of New York City or go visit your local churches, knights of columbus and even fire houses. You can rent the space from them. Assuming the price you quoted is just for the rental, you should be okay. You may also consider having a house party, provided you know someone who has a large living room. You can do a buffet, have your mom and other relatives donate a dish, hire a dj and just set up chairs in the perimeter of the room.
Of course, in addition, no matter what you decide, you will need food, drinks, table decor, utensils, plates, cake, dj invites and thank you favors, maybe balloons and/or flowers. That could run over $2000 easily. DJ's alone start at over $600 in New York City.
Why don't you call me and I will see what I can come up with. You may consider have a "Sweet 16 Luncheon" at a nice restaurant on a Saturday, when it's slower during the day, and then at night make plans to go out to a club or dancing. If you keep your guests below 35, you may be able to afford something.
Or you can just "ditch" the whole thing, hire a limo with your best ten pals, play music and have beverages in the limo, drive around town and grab some burgers to go. This is fun and there are a lot of limo party buses just for that purpose.
Best!

You can do a lot there are small places that are amazing looking for a small budget the most important thing is that you decorate it and make it look great.
I specialize in Sweet Sixteens and do free consultations and I have experience working with many different budgets.
