Planning a wedding for Oct. 2011, Just getting started

Messages in this topic - RSS
So I have been in a few weddings but haven't been behind the scenes very much in the planning out.  I have the date set, the church booked, the colors picked out, and now I'm coming up with the guest list.  I hopefully am doing everything that I need to do right now.  My parents are paying for most of it but I don't want to go very high in expenses.  Anyone have any suggestions for finding the best prices for everything?  I'm located in midwestern WI and I am seeming to run into very limited options for a lot of things.  I have been to a few websites and learning as much as I can.  Any other suggestions?

Step one in planning, regardless of who is paying is to state you budget. Do you have a budget?

Step two: what's your vision of your wedding and reception celebration. Recommend two or three special touches, that can be very simple, but special to you and the groom.

I know this doesn't seem like a way to "find the best prices" but you really should talk to a professional planner in your area. They often have networks of vendors and have established discounts, which they should be passing on to you (and if they're not - don't use them). If nothing else, make sure you strongly consider hiring a day-of coordinator to manage the vendors, set up, strike, guest logistics, timeline, and last minute emergencies (they will arise).

Congratulations on your Engagement! I highly agree with Events Unwrapped! Just look at Bridezillas on tv and see the headaches they try to achieve the day of by themselves - Impossible!

You definately need to choose a venue, source of music/entertainment, are you having music at the church? Photographer, videographer?

Around June-July, you need to pick out invitations and order them as they get mailed, ideally, 8 weeks before. I sell beautiful invitations at fabulous prices and pride myself on helping my clients in any way that I can. On my website, I have vendors all over the place that may be of assistance to you. You can visit my website at www.invitationsbydeborah.com or phone me: 877-837-9122.

Ways to save would be to start making favors and maybe centerpieces now. On my blog there are some suggestions on making these. The best way to save is to prioritize things and not have everything you see (keeping up with the Jones). It's one day and should be special but doesn't need to make you broke.

I hope that this is helpful. Best of wishes to you and enjoy! This is a special time and should be fun, if possible.
