I see this all the time at beach park weddings. There are definitely ways that a set pavilion with permanent picnic tables can be made to look stunning for a wedding. I highly recommend consulting with a professional though, otherwise the results can be disastrous. Florists, party planners, wedding planners, interior designers, can give you some assistance. Even if you want to do it yourself, definitely use a professional's advice. "Guest's" advice for accommodating older guests and guests with mobility issues is wonderful.

I agree with guest. I went to an event where the picnic tables were set with black and white striped cloths, they had pads made for the benches in black, and they set the tables with silver table wear. They had tall silver urns with branches they spray painted and hung crystals and glued silky flowers too. It was beautiful and elegant. Each place setting had small little frames with each guests name on it and there was silver, red and black beads and red & pink rose petals scattered around each table top. Just fantastic. See this link from the Knot for an idea.

Picnic tables can be made to look fantastic, like you planned them being there the whole time. My thought is make sure to go with real linens, not plastic. See if someone can make matching cushions to dress up the part of the picnic bench. You can use rented chairs for the ends of the tables so they are like long dining room tables. As you are planning your seating chart make sure to put your older guests on the ends because they may have a hard time getting their legs over the picnic bench. I am sure that with the right decor the picnic tables can be beautiful! Best of luck! |

Actually I have encountered the same problem that you did. My first Maid of Honor and my brids maid were planning my wedding, without consulting me at a venue. My Fiance' did not like it. So here is my advice, check around to where you live, see if there are other Japanese gardens that will allow you to bring your own chairs, tables, and construct your tent. I would even go as far as getting in touch with the state park authorites and ask them about moving the tables and having them set it up the way you want it. |

The place where I want my wedding is outdoors in a japenese garden. I love the garden and am positive I want my wedding here. My problem is that because it is a state park they have alot of rules and regulations one of which will prevent me from constructing a tent wth my own tables and chairs for the reception. This is where your help would be greatly appreciated..... I can rent a covered picnic area which I can decorate how I choose but only problem is that there are picnic tables which cannot be removed. Has anyone ever done this or seen it done? Or even some of your Ideas would be appreciated |
