Originally a Chinese-Language house in the early 70s known as the Golden Harvest, the theatre was a popular destination for watching authentic kung-fu movies. After a mulit-million dollar renovation, the Imperial is now one of the coolest boutique theatres and private event venues in the city, maybe even the country.

 

Modeled after the Electric Cinema, a multi-purpose venue in London, the theatre’s current incarnation is a cross between your typical art-house screening room and a high-end steak house. Miniature replicas of Qin Dynasty Terracotta warriors line a shelf encircling the bar’s counter: a tasteful touch of chinoiserie that acknowledges the venue’s past. Tiled sinks in the washrooms, live koi fish in our lounge aquarium and two fully functioning bars are only a few of our allures. A successful marriage between the old and the new has set the foundation for another page in the venue’s storied life.

The Imperial is conveniently located in Vancouver’s urban core at 319 Main Street (between Hastings and Cordova).

 

Parking

There is ample pay and street parking located in close proximity to the venue. Metered street parking is avaliable on many nearby streets including East Cordova, Main Street and Gore Ave.

The Imperial is a 6,000 square foot stylish, state of the art private event and multimedia facility located in the city’s urban core. It is Vancouver’s hidden gem. Carefully transformed from its abandoned Asian movie house state to its contemporary revitalized form, The Imperial offers clients an exciting and unparalleled event experience. With a recently updated world class audio and lighting package as well as a flexible floor plan, we can accomodate anything from concerts, corporate presentations, sit-down dinner service, fundraisers, private events or anything you can think of. If you can imagine it, we can create it.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN MY VENUE RENTAL?

  • – Manager on duty for the entirety of your event
  • – Technician on duty (up to 8 hours)
  • – House Sound and Lighting Systems (including our world class L’Acoustic line array sound system and intelligent lighting system)
  • – Basic post event cleaning
  • – Bar staff as required
  • – 1 Event Security host (up to 4 hours)

WHAT IS THE VENUE'S CAPACITY?

Our capacity is determined by which rooms are being used as well as the seating/event configuration. Please call for more details.

CAN WE BRING IN OUR OWN ALCOHOL?

No. Imperial is a liquor-primary licensed facility and all alcohol must be purchased through our license and served by our service staff.

IS SMOKING ALLOWED?

Imperial is a non-smoking venue. If a smoking area is required, it is located in front of the building on Main Street.

DO YOU HAVE PARKING?

Imperial has very limited gated parking for staff/production vehicles. Additional parking is readily available in nearby paid lots and metered street parking. Valet services are also available.

WHAT ARE THE CATERING OPTIONS?

Catering is done in-house by MRG Catering. From passed canapes, to action food stations, to customized buffets and plated dinners, we can do it all.

WHAT FURNITURE COMES WITH MY RENTAL?

Our main furniture setup includes a limited number of custom tables, chairs, bar tables and stools. Some furniture layouts and adjustments may result in additional moving costs.

CAN I BRING IN MY OWN PRODUCTION TEAM?

Imperial has a world class team of production professionals who work out of our facility. You may bring in your own equipment, but labour and rigging must be provided by the Imperial team.

WHAT TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT DOES THE IMPERIAL HAVE?

Please refer to the tech page for technical details.

DO I NEED TO PAY A DAMAGE DEPOSIT?

Yes – a damage deposit is required for every event. The amount of deposit depends on the type of event. Please contact us for details.

DO I NEED TO PROVIDE EVENT INSURANCE?

Yes – insurance is required for every event. We require 3 million dollar event liability insurance which Imperial staff can help co-ordinate for you.

IS THE IMPERIAL WHEEL CHAIR ACCESSIBLE-FRIENDLY?

Yes – the entire main floor of the imperial is wheel-chair accessible including ramps into the main theatre room as well as a main floor accessible washroom.

CAN WE HAVE BANDS OR A DJ AT OUR EVENTS?

Yes – of course. We are very proud of how our rooms sound and love to have amazing music in our facility.

ARE MINORS ALLOWED IN THE VENUE?

Imperial is strictly a 19+ venue. Exceptions can only be made for artists/talent and must be discussed with the General Manager in advance.
