Posted by jessie under Hotels, News

A huge fire broke out at Dubai’s Atlantis hotel, just weeks before its scheduled opening.
Firefighters managed to save the hotel from the fire, but damage done to the grand entrance and part of the roof have left a blackened mess.

The fire broke out in the hotel’s lobby on Tuesday morning at 7:20 AM. Firefighters contained the blaze by 10:15 AM. The cause of the fire is still yet to be determined.

There were no guests staying at the hotel at the time of the fire, and hotel workers were evacuated immediately.

Hotel owners made a statement to the Times Online that they are planning to open the hotel on schedule as planned on September 24th, 2008. Owners also said that the damage done to the external roof and lobby dome was limited.

The Atlantis is known for currently being the most extravagant hotel in all of Dubai. The 1,539-room hotel is located on the man-made Palm Island, which was built in the shape of a palm tree.

There are 17 restaurants on the grounds in addition to a 42-acre water park, an open-air aquarium and a dolphinarium.
