Woodland Park Zoo encompasses 92 acres and features more than 1,090 individual animals representing nearly 300 species. The grounds are divided into what are known as bioclimatic zones, the unique habitats around the world, from tropical rain forests to the frigid climes of the Far North. The zoo manages the largest live animal collection in Washington state, with approximately 1,098 specimens representing 300 species plus 34 groups of arthropods, one group of fish and one group of Partula snails. The zoo provides a home for 35 endangered and five threatened animal species. The zoo’s botanical collection includes 7,000 trees and more than 50,000 shrubs and herbs representing more than 1,000 species.

From barbecues for 5,000 in the North Meadow and weddings in the Woodland Park Rose Garden, to formal receptions in the Rain Forest Food Pavilion and picnics in the Picnic Shelter, the zoo offers unique venues for special events. Tours, animal encounters and activities are available, as well as the zoo’s own Rain Forest Catering and event staff to ensure every event is zoorific. Woodland Park Zoo can accommodate either and much more with venues from our expansive North Meadow to picnic shelters. Plus, a host of catering options whether it’s elegant light hors d’oeuvres or rib stickin’ BBQs, that will make your event memorable.

"Rose Garden at Woodland Park", An Eventective User from Seattle, WA
My husband and I wanted to get married in a place close our friends and in the city. We had a terrible time trying to find a place that could accommodate us outside and that was affordable. We finally had a friend recommend the rose garden just outside the zoo. It was beautiful. The staff made every thing look wonderful! The nice part was that it was a small venue so we could easily control who was there for the wedding and who was not. It was also nice to have it so close to the city. The one thing that I would caution about is that if you have a large wedding this will probably not be suitable. We also had some challenges working with the staff getting ideas about cost and setting firm plans. They were always polite but quite slow to respond to our questions. I would recommend this place for a smaller wedding, especially in late spring or early summer. We had ours in June and it was beautiful. The roses were absolutely breathtaking and the pictures turned out simply gorgeous with all of the flowers in full bloom in the back ground. You are able to supply some of your own decorations as well. We were able to put some lovely large ribbons through the gazebo that had the colors of my flowers and brides maids dresses.
