 8/11/2011 | | "A Perfect Meeting Venue Just Minutes from Downtown Richmond", An Eventective User from Glen Allen, Virginia | The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen is a hidden treasure located in the outskirts of Richmond, Virginia. It is just minutes from the downtown area. Originally an old school building, it was turned into a multi-purpose facility that highlights and promotes music and the visual arts, through classes, exhibits, concerts, dramatic performances, gallery talks and more. The facility also includes spaces that are large enough to host meetings, banquets and even weddings with up to 250 guests.
Just 12 years old, the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen is not usually on the top of someone's list when they are planning an event like a meeting or wedding, but it really should be. Conveniently located just about a mile off the Interstate, it offers all of the amenities of larger and more popular venues but without the high price and hassle. There is plenty of parking, an on-site caterer and very few restrictions about what you can and can't do when you contract with them for an event. I had the opportunity to lease the facility for a corporate training event, and was thoroughly pleased with all of the details. Working with the management staff in organizing the training was a pleasure. They made good suggestions on how I could best utilize their multi-purpose room and allowed me to bring in my own audio-visual contractors to set up projection screens and digital displays.
I had a budget that did not allow me too much wiggle room, and they were willing to work with me to ensure that the guests got a full day of activities, meals, snacks and beverages. Their attention to detail was amazing, and I was able to spend the day enjoying the training. In other facilities, I would be running around making sure there was not an impending disaster waiting to happen.
Despite its smallish feel, the ballroom can accommodate approximately 250 guests for a seated banquet and about 300 if arranged theater style. My training only had about 80 people, but we needed to spread out for some of the planned exercises. At the end of the day, the attendees filled out their evaluation forms and suggested that the Glen Allen Cultural Arts Center become our regular place for meetings, workshops and training, and I am inclined to agree. Why go elsewhere when we have such perfection in our own backyard? |
| 8/4/2011 | | "Classy and resonably priced", An Eventective User from Richmond VA | We really enjoyed having our wedding reception at the Glen Allen Cultural Arts Center. We rented a ballroom as well as the gallery. We set up the food in the gallery, and tables and a dance floor in the ballroom. You must use their catering services, which are not cheap... but the prices are on par with other venues. We had many ""mini"" guests (kids) and the Cultural Arts Center really worked with us to make sure that we had food and activities that were perfect for the kids. The quality of the food was good, and the service was more than adequate. Our favorites were the bacon-wrapped scallops and the roast beef carving station. The staff was friendly and accomodating, and worked with our vendors well. We really liked using the gallery as the place to set up the buffet. The art changes frequently, so make sure that you like the artwork that will be displayed during your event. There are plenty of bathrooms for your guests.
The ballroom itself was very nice. The parquet floors and vintage looking lighting really made for an elegant evening. We also held our rehearsal dinner at the Cultural Arts Center. They did a great job with that as well. There is plenty of parking, the venue is close to several major interestates. We would definitely use the Cultural Arts Center again if we had another large event to hold. |
