Being a mom can be one of the most rewarding and challenging parts of our lives as women. From diapers to daycare, carpools to college, it can be difficult to find the time, space, and energy to connect with a spiritual source that can ground and sustain us as mothers, and our families. In this week, moms of all ages will gather to experience a set of practices for dealing with stress and connecting with spirit designed specifically for mothers that can be integrated into everyday life back at home. Supported by the stunning beauty of the high-desert Northern New Mexico land that was home to Georgia O’Keefe, activities will include mindfulness meditation, yoga, contemplative prayer, dialogue, writing, creative art, and time in nature. A scientist as well as a psychologist and mom, Dr. Vieten will also share some of the latest scientific knowledge about contemplative practices and well-being, especially as it relates to motherhood.
Cassandra Vieten, PhD, is a mom, licensed clinical psychologist, director of research at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, co-director of the Mind Body Medicine Research Group at California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute, and author of Mindful Motherhood: Practical Tools for Staying Sane During Pregnancy and Your Child’s First Year. *NOT DISPLAYED*
