Supported Layouts and Capacities
This gorgeous theatre, designed by architect Charles Bulfinch in the 1800s, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The theatre itself is basically a huge open room with no fixed seating. It can be set up theatre-style, as an open dance floor, with tables and chairs, or some combination of the above. The theatre is equipped with professional lighting and sound system, which can be operated by the renter or by a hired professional. The venue staff provide some assistance with the equipment. Rental also includes use of the building's kitchen, art galleries, and outdoor terrace. The outdoor terrace can be set up with tables and chairs. The art galleries will of course be in use as galleries, and there is no control over what will be installed in them at any given time, but the art tends to all be interesting and high-quality. Renters are free to set up a buffet or bar in the art galleries or otherwise use them to extend the party into an additional space. The venue has some limitations in terms of what caterers and other vendors can be used, but these are minimal, and the staff are accommodating of exceptions in order to meet dietary or cultural needs. Alcohol is permitted when served by an approved caterer. The location is easily accessible by public transportation and has ample street parking. Rates and policies are listed clearly on the website, which is helpful.
