Franklin Park Zoo, founded in 1913, is the 72-acre site nestled in Boston’s historic Franklin Park, long considered the “crown jewel” of Frederick Law Olmsted’s Emerald Necklace Park System. Highlights of Franklin Park Zoo’s collection include the African lions of the Kalahari Kingdom, Masai giraffe and Grevy’s zebra of the Giraffe Savannah, and western lowland gorillas of the Tropical Forest. The tigers came to Franklin Park Zoo after being confiscated in a sting operation by US Fish and Wildlife special agents where the agents posed as private sector buyers and were able to purchase the pair from the wildlife sanctuary they were living at. The opening of this exhibit marks the first time tigers will be exhibited at Franklin Park Zoo in more than 30 years. At Franklin Park Zoo, children and adults alike can experience hundreds of exotic animal species from around the world right in the middle of Boston! Explore the wonders of a tropical rainforest, the Australian outback, or the African savannah in one of these exhibit areas.
