In the shadow of the towering John Hancock building, hotel 140, an affordable Boston boutique hotel, stands as an historic icon and beacon of warmth and hospitality.

Our historic building was originally constructed as the first YWCA and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been a Boston landmark since it was built in 1929.

After a complete renovation in 2005, the building now offers a unique combination of facilities:

Hotel 140
Clarendon Residences
The Lyric Stage Company of Boston
YWCA of Greater Boston

Travelers “in the know,” find here classic, updated accommodations in true boutique style where each room emanates its own personality. They know they will find a lobby where a blend of tourists and locals alike enjoy coffee and conversation, and that the core and soul of the building is still based in philanthropy and a strong commitment to the community. Some guests say that we are the best kept secret in the Back Bay…..but secrets are hard to keep!

The Back Bay is historic, picturesque, convenient, and fun! With downtown Boston at your doorstep at hotel 140, you’ll enjoy boutique shopping on Newbury Street, exciting meals along the South End’s restaurant row, and history and culture at Boston’s many museums, theaters, and historic sites.

We can accommodate groups up to 100 theater style, and 80 reception style.
