10/14/2011 | | "Where to Have a Fantastically Creative and Fun Wedding", An Eventective User from Washington, DC | The American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) in Baltimore, Maryland is a truly fun and unique venue for a wedding. AVAM is one of the premier museums in Baltimore, and showcases art for dispossessed artists—works that would never see in a mainstream museum, but are nonetheless beautiful, fascinating, and often hilarious.
My wife and I were married in AVAM's Herb Garden right outside the Sculpture Barn where we held the reception. The Herb Garden has a very cool wooden structure that made a great backdrop for the ceremony itself as well as well for wedding photos with all the family and friends in attendance. The sculpture barn was very spacious and easily accommodated our 100 guests with plenty of room for the band and dancing.
Presiding over the whole event were AVAM's Kinetic Sculptures; for example, a gigantic pink poodle named Fifi. As AVAM is in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, there were plenty of places for guests to stay, parking, and things for out-of-town guests to do before and the day after the wedding.
The staff at AVAM were extremely easy to work with and accommodating. The cost was significantly less than any other private venue we found of similar size in Baltimore city or Washington, DC. We chose to have the reception catered separately, through a great Baltimore catering company called Sasha's Catering. The staff at Sasha worked directly with AVAM staff to assure the chairs and tables were properly setup. The AVAM staff let our guests stay well past the time the reception was supposed to be over, and didn't express any concern over the noise or general rowdiness that ensued. All told, the AVAM helped us have a great experience and to this day our friends tell us that it was the most interesting and fun wedding they ever attended. |
