Rippleffect is a non-profit youth and community development organization operating outdoor adventure programming out of Portland, Maine. We own Cow Island, a beautiful 26-acre island in Casco Bay, and run many of our youth and adult programs from this remote eco-campus. Serving over 3,500 youth and adults each year, we are leaders in outdoor adventure and experiential education in the Northeast region.

A boat ride from Portland’s historic waterfront brings you and your guests to Cow Island in Maine’s scenic Casco Bay where your special day becomes a unique and memorable experience. Imagine exchanging your vows in our intimate Oak Grove as you look to Casco Bay.

Our secluded island has become a popular venue for the perfect destination wedding. We will take care of wedding details from rentals to transportation to catering. Wedding activities can include sea kayaking, use of our 400' zip line, and the option for overnight accommodations for your wedding guests.

For high school students, our expeditions and Cow Classic programming provide an economical alternative to exotic adventure programs in far-off destinations that reveal the rugged wilderness just off our shores, and focus on the leadership and life skills that help build whole, healthy people.

Cow Island is a beautiful island off the coast of Portland, Maine. It is a half hour ride from Portland Harbor and is an amazing place for corporate retreats and teambuilding activities. The island has a rock wall, and several ropes courses for teambuilding activities. There also is amazing food on Cow Island. The chefs there are amazing and will make anything you want. The money you spend on having your event on Cow goes to support scholarships so that poor children can go to their summer camp and get the experience of kayaking.

Cow Island is a beautiful island off the coast of Portland, ME. It is a quick boat ride from Portland Harbor. The staff on Cow is amazing and will help you with anything you need, and everyone is very friendly. The food on Cow Island is amazing, and Courtney is famous for her desserts. They will cook whatever you want, and because of the large amount of lobstermen working in the area, lobster dinners are quite cheap. There are many fun activities to do on Cow Island, including sea kayaking, zip lining, ropes courses, and swimming. There are yurts and tents on Cow that can hold over 100 people for an overnight wedding. Most couples exchange vows at The Oaks during sunset. The oaks is a grove of oak and birch trees where you can watch the sun set over the water and the city.

Cow Island is a beautiful island on Casco Bay in Maine. The island can be used for very large weddings, up to 150 people. The kitchen staff makes amazing food. Lobster bakes are very common for Cow Island weddings. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. The island is also a summer camp, but counseler in training kids will help clean up in the days after the wedding. The money spent on weddings goes to help children from low-income families go to the camp. Cow Island has many yurts and tents for guests to stay overnight. Cow Island also has many recreational activities including a climbing wall, zip line, and sea kayaking.

Choose from our a la carte program menu to create a customized event that meets your goals.Cow Island Campsite, Rippleffect, Portland — Find a World Away A mere 3 miles and 15 minutes by boat launch, Cow Island offers a peaceful retreat from the fast pace of mainland life.Cow Island Campsite, Rippleffect, Portland — Battery Bayard: Cow Island Bas Battery Bayard was completed in 1907 and was the home of 3 fifteen inch Rodman guns to defend the fort.
Designated campsites on the West side. Situated to the north of Great Diamond Island in Casco Bay, Cow Island is open to the public for low-impact recreational use.

Rippleffect owns this 26-acre island with responsibility to protect Cow's natural ecosystem and public access. From its island headquarters in Battery Bayard on the east side, Rippleffect leads experiential, environmental programs for area teens & adults. The best access to the island is on the northwest side.

During programming; Monday thru Sunday, June thru October, please confine your exploration to the west side. At other times, you're welcome to explore the entire island. You'll find vestiges of gun emplacements, batteries and bunkers from both World Wars. There are manholes throughout the island. They are mostly covered, but please watch your step. Use established trails and stairways to help preserve delicate plants. Clean-ups and restoration projects are ongoing; if you wish to assist, check in with staff members or call Rippleffect.

Both Rippleffect and the Maine Coast Heritage Trust request that you follow all posted guidelines and leave Cow Island better than you found it. Your cooperation is appreciated.
