Brittany Johnson has studied the violin since she was nine years old. At the age of 14 she began studying alternative styles such as bluegrass, irish, and old time. Brittany won her first competition later that year and performed as a soloist at the Virginia Theatre in Urbana, IL. Later that year Brittany joined the bow-dacious string band under the direction of Robin Kearton. While in the group Brittany performed at several locations throughout central and nothern Illinois. This group would also spark her interest in teaching. Brittany was in the group until the end of highschool. Since then Brittany has gone on to place and win at several other fiddle competitions. Notable contests include the 2008 Champaign County Fair Senior Division Talent Winner, 2009 ISAAF 3rd place Talent Winner, out of 42 contestestants respectively, and 2010 3rd Place Illinois State Fair Open Division Fiddle Contest Winner. She has studied under Robin Kearton and Sarah Gentry. Passionate about teaching Brittany has taught every class and private lessons in Illinois State University’s String Project where she is continously inspired by her students. Brittany is expected to graduate in May 2012 with degrees in music and French. After graduation she hopes to relocate to Nashville to pursue a performance and teaching career.
