 1/28/2008 | | "Waiting in Vain", RICKANDSHAY from Port Saint Lucie, Florida | While staying at a beautiful B&B in Stuart, "The Shepards Inn" which was less than 1 block from Casa Bella, My wife and I decided to dine at this highly recommended establishment. We called in advance to make reservations and were informed reservations were not accepted for parties less than 6. We wore semi-formal attire and arrived at shortly after 6 pm. There were several older couples ahead of us and a bearded gentleman greeted them and took
their names. When it was our turn he abruptly left. We stood there for almost 10 minutes. The host passed us several times, with no eye contact. He finally approched us and without asking our names informed us the wait would be long.
We were in no hurry and didn't mind waiting. He took our names, informed us of a half hour to 45 min wait and told us to wait outside(there was plenty of room inside) I asked if we could be served a beverage and he replied he would be out to take our order.
We sat outside and watched as groups of 2 to 4 parties came into the establishment and were promptly seated (as if they had reservations). After twenty minutes of being left outside I approached the bearded host and asked again if we could get a beverage. In a very agitated and condescending manner, he informed us that he had no personel to serve us. My wife and I had the distinct feeling that we were not wanted there. After watching more couples be seated immediately, my wife approached the bearded gentleman and was told that not only could we not get served beverages but we would have to wait another 25 minutes. We had been waiting, ignored, outside for 45 minutes already. My wife stated that if they didn't want to serve us, we could leave. He immediately said OK and erased our names off the list (there were no names after ours on the list).
We abruptly left and spent our money elsewhere. Apparently Casa Bella has a revolving clientele of regulars that are greeted and seated immediately. For first timers, it's wait in vain.
