Welcome to the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the only museum in the world dedicated exclusively to recognizing the contributions of women artists. The National Museum of Women in the Arts has five floors of exhibition space. Visitors are welcomed first into the beautiful Great Hall, where early works from the permanent collection are installed. The information desk, staffed by docents, and the Museum Shop are near the entrance. In the Education Gallery, installations provide background and context for exhibitions as well as the annual Bridging Communities exhibition of student artwork. Stairs and elevators lead to the Mezzanine where more works from the permanent collection are displayed. The Mezzanine Café is also located on this level. The second and third floors of the museum are entirely dedicated to exhibitions. Special temporary exhibitions are held on the second floor. On the third floor, a selection of modern and contemporary works from the permanent collection provides visitors with a continuous record of women's achievements in the visual arts. On the fourth floor is NMWA's Library and Research Center, which houses extensive collections of materials on women artists and has an ongoing exhibition program of book-related arts. The Eulabee Dix Gallery, which is also located on the fourth floor, features special exhibitions. The fifth floor houses the museum Performance Hall/Auditorium, where many public programs are held. Staff offices are located on the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors; the museum receptionist is on the fourth floor. The Mezzanine Cafe, surrounded by works from the museum's permanent collection, offers visitors a relaxing place to eat lunch. Choose from a seasonal menu of appetizers and soups, salads, gourmet sandwiches, a daily entree, and delicious desserts. With prior arrangement, the Cafe staff can also arrange breakfasts, private lunches, and afternoon teas.
