If you plan a small meeting in the Mid-Atlantic and want a beautiful location, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland may be perfect for your group. The campus of the museum is set on the Miles River on Maryland's Eastern Shore, a convenient drive from Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia. More and more New Yorkers are finding their way here, too, and nearby Easton, Maryland's airport accommodates private aircraft, including small jets. CBMM's campus is made up of many small buildings, some historic, some new, reflecting the water-oriented, sailing and commercial fishing of the region. A lovely stroll to the well-equipped Van Lennep meeting room in the Steamboat Building takes you through green spaces, past picnic tables, up to the shoreline, where you can breath in the salt breeze off the Chesapeake Bay. Decks off the meeting room offer spectacular views towards the Eastern Bay. You'll see the Hooper Straight Lighthouse, an historic lighthouse, preserved on land, where you can arrange a smaller dinner or cocktail party. The Small Boat Shed may offer a convenient and fascinating location for a cocktail gathering after your meeting. If you have time, you can tour wood boat building exhibits or try your hand at tonging for oysters. Staff is always helpful in managing your needs, and you will be supporting a non-profit organization devoted to preserving history. Overnight offerings are varied, from the luxurious Orient Express Inn at Perry Cabin to charming inns and B&Bs right in the town of St. Michaels, a great little walking town. Gastronomic offerings include local crab cakes and oysters and you can find everything from Italian-style, wood oven pizza at Ava's wine bar, to sushi, to French country cooking at Bistro, and down-home cooking at Carpenter Street Saloon.
