1/17/2008 | | "Unprofessional", khauser from Menlo Park, California | This was the restaurant where I held my wedding reception. I tip my hat to Bong Su's wait staff and kitchen for their great service and food on my wedding day. However, Bong Su's management has been a nightmare. They were incompetent (with multiple instances of miscommunication), deceitful about pricing (the old bait-and-switch routine happened 3 times, along with some blatant overcharging), and sometimes plain spiteful. They caused two huge embarrassments for our guests, and months of headaches after the event. It was only due to the good spirits of the occasion and our friends and family that lifted our wedding day out of becoming a disaster.
The manager Anne Le had always been brisk, and bordering on rude. She raised the minimum from $4250 to $7100 "because we took 3 weeks to sign the contract and they changed their prices". Our dinner prices were raised from $60 to $75 on a whim. When we talked to the pastry chef, he said our dessert bar would be $500-$1000. When Anne got a hold of it, her price became $2000. When we asked to reduce the number of $4 chocolate strawberries from 150 to 60, they did so in the number of strawberries served -- but not in the bill.
But not only are they dishonest with pricing, they suffer from serious miscommunication bordering on incompetence. Anne assured us multiple times in advance that we could play music in their bar as loud as we wanted, so there could be dancing. On the day of the wedding, the manager (Yuri) didn't let us turn the music up loud enough for dancing -- it is barely audible in the wedding video.
The other major miscommunication was a huge embarrassment -- we had thought for a long time about whether or not we wanted to host the bar. At first we decided not to, but then we changed our minds and told the sommelier that we decided to host. We were horrified when we discovered at around 11pm that Bong Su had been charging our guests at the bar for hours. Oy! |
