The Chabot Space & Science Center started a public observatory that has expanded to serve San Francisco Bay Area schools and citizens with astronomy and science education programs for over 115 years. The institution began in 1883 as the Oakland Observatory, with telescopes donated by Anthony Chabot. It was relocated to a new site and opened on August 19, 2000. The new Chabot Space & Science Center is an 86,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art science and technology education facility on a 13-acre site in the hills of Oakland, California. Whether you are planning a large 500 guest gala or a small team building event, Chabot offers a variety of rentals spaces to fit your needs. Host your event inside Chabot’s dynamic science center, outdoors sounded by the Redwood Regional Park or 1,500 feet above the bay on our observation deck where Chabot’s three historical telescopes are housed. The Spees Building is the grand entrance to Chabot Space & Science Center, with a circular drive and elegant rotunda. You can rent any or all of the 3 levels, with three fascinating and fun exhibit areas for your guests to explore. Located between the Spees and the Dellums Buildings, the Courtyard Tent, Amphitheater and the EnviroGarden are joined by the wide open space of the Pleiades Courtyard. We offer various meeting rooms fully equipped with audio visual equipment.
